Mate of mine who is a customer at Ladbrokes and who normally has between $20.00 and $50.00 on a horse, got on his computer on Friday because he wanted to back Almandin in the Melbourne Cup.

The odds were $7.00 and he decided to have, what for him is a big bet, $100.00 straight out. He pressed confirm, and the message came back that he could have $50.00 of the bet, but not the whole $100.00.

He's actually pretty happy with that outcome, because today he could have got $8.00.

However, as he said to me, that is not the point. This is not the first time he has been cut back, and one time was only allowed to have $5.30 on a $6.00 chance after having asked them for $15.00 on it.

He has already been banned from odds boost, and when he tried to have $20.00 on Winx at $2.00 which was a promotion they were having, he was barred from having the bet.

Now this is a bloke who has retired, and only bets on a Saturday, with an average turnover of around $200 for the day.

After the Cup is over, he'll be closing his account and as he has now opened one up with Betfair, will only bet on the exchange.

My mate is around $600 in front with Ladbrokes for this year thus far, and believes that if he was $600 behind, they would have bet him the original bet that he asked for.

As he said, the $100.00 bet was on a horse in the Melbourne Cup Australia's biggest race with purportedly, one of the world's biggest bookmakers. You really have to wonder about the systems that these Corps have in place whereby they decide that a $100.00 bet on the Melbourne Cup, is too much for them to accept. It's absolutely laughable. And they all do it.

He has now come to the conclusion, that what I told him a couple of years ago, is correct.

They are a pack of bullshiiiite artists and leaches who are destroying the very fabric of our racing product with their absorption of money from those who would normally bet with the on course bookie or the tote, and returning a miniscule amount to the race clubs.

If you are a confirmed loser, they will let you on for decent money. If you are a winner, you will be banned.

At the end of their commercials, where a voice over man tells us to gamble responsibly, makes the hypocricy of these Corporates, about as  sickening as it gets.

Tell your mate to try to get his bet on with NEDS and see what happens. It's owned by the former CEO of ladbrokes and they're running huge sign on bonuses. Obviously check the states that are excluded before you deposit though :)]

@therealkramer I’m in WA and got the full $500, it’s automatically added.

Odds aren’t that great though and the website is very buggy, the verification is also a pain in the @ss. I just hedged my bonuses and deposit and withdrew.

Ladbrokes was also the hardest to get a bowler with. My account is limited so I signed up the missus and being the same address they were right on to it. Called her and asked loads of verification questions and also asked if she was signing up for me. She answered everything perfect though so they didn’t have a leg to stand on (she’s a keeper). Taken them for a bit so far, I’d wager the account won’t last long though...
