Warney!!
Bring back Mr Plastic.
Glow in the dark teeth, orange skinned, shaggy haired blonde tipped spinning machine!
Be great for his sponsors and the TV ratings would be thru the roof.
WACA would be centre of the universe next week.

Smith
Johnson

I can't see that team beating England....
Any danger of picking our best side? Katich was not an opener before being thrust into the position to fill a gap, so why pick an out of form crab who happens to open in shield cricket....
Push Hussey up to open and play Khawaja or Ferguson.
Must be playing Johnson for his batting....
Wildcard - won't beat them without him, so nothing to lose by playing him.
Ricky Ponting (c)
Michael Clarke (vc)
Michael Beer
Brad Haddin
Ryan Harris
Phillip Hughes
Ben Hilfenhaus
Mike Hussey WA
Mitchell Johnson
Peter Siddle
Steven Smith
Shane Watson
Seems Shane Warne still has pull
Main point is i don't see why they name the team so early! There are games going on right now and the message they are sending is that results in these matches don't matter. And proof of that is Hughes got a duck moments before they named the team, that's 4 and 0 in his last match and they are bringing him into a very important test match.
Smith is not a good selelction either, his batting won't stand up to Test level and his bowling is rubbish. And Johnson what a joke, he wasn't good enough to get a game in Adelaide yet with no matches between now and then all of a sudden he is. If they wanted to play him fine but he should be playing in Brisbane right now he hasn't played since the first Test.
Whore - 3 wickets
Smith - 8 wickets
ie on equal terms. Same day, same pitch etc.
Would say that ended any chance of Hauritz getting a recall.
Australian squad for WACA Test:
Ricky Ponting (c)
Michael Clarke (vc)
Michael Beer
Brad Haddin
Ryan Harris
Phillip Hughes
Ben Hilfenhaus
Mike Hussey WA
Mitchell Johnson
Peter Siddle
Steven Smith
Shane Watson
As predicted. Beer won't play as leaves the batting short
Disagree with most of that
Hughes has played well before his last match and is a logical spot as opener
Smith is a viable option as an all-rounder
Johnson needs to build his confidence up - has obviously been doing work in the nets - selectors would be getting feedback. As his best he is clearly our no 1 bowling - like Tivers said - nothing to lose by picking him
Do agree they pick the squad too early - altho there is probably some reasons
Smith well time will tell who's right there.
Johnson if he needs to build his confidence up he needs to play sheild cricket not come out against the poms again where everytime he bowls a bad ball it's gonna be put away by quality cricketers.
Backed themselves in to a corner naming Hughes (already)
Can't play Smith and Beer, so Hughes has to - but will be a disaster.
Now got one opener that isn't an opener, and one that can't play outside his off stump or over his shoulder (at the WACA !!!)
F Me !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hughes will do f all, so really only playing 5 bats and a keeper/bat.
Only playing 3 front line bowlers too. Johnson is baggage, Watson and Smith.
With Watson in the side, should only play 3 other seamers anyway.
Agree with Smith's inlcusion and probably Hilfy, but Johnson and Hughes don't deserve to be there.
Hussey to open and play both Khawaja and Ferguson. Smith bats 8 and 3 seamers.
Watson
Hussey
Ponting
Clarke
Khawaja
Ferguson
Haddin
Smith
Harris
Copeland or Cameron
Hilfenhaus
What price the poms?
Certainly a better option than Hughes and the side would be stronger with Khawaja and/or Ferguson in it rather than Hughes.
He was facing the new ball last test anyway when we were 3 for f all!
But the main reason is that Khawaja and Ferguson are our future. Hussey hasn't got that long left so he can fill the opening void until either Katich comes back or we uncover a decent opener.
He can then either drop back to the middle order, or if the young guns are performing then make a decision on his future.
However I reckon he would keep Katich out of the team if it came down to a fight for the opening spot.
I guess it will be piss funny watching Hughes backing away to square leg when the poms come around the wicket and bowl at his body
Before he nicks one to the grippers
Hughes has been doing a lot of work on his batting - his last ODI Innings was very impressive
I was having a bet and selected ENGLAND to win the 3rd test !
