I would love to know the watering regime that happens at Ascot.
I have some really unusual numbers that don't make a lot of sense.....unless!

My average going numbers are near identical for Belmont and Ascot midweek meetings.
For Saturdays, Ascot average is about 10 metres faster than the equivalent at Belmont.
If midweek is the same then would expect Saturdays to be so too.
Makes me wonder when irrigation occurs and amount applied.

Part of the reason would be that Ascot has a higher overall standard than Belmont where horse quality is concerned, but that is already accounted for.

Thinking that maybe they want fast times for the big meetings so perhaps less water applied late in week compared to early???

In fact I have this really interesting statistic that would love to understand.
Nearly all my fastest going figures for Belmont are for midweek quality meetings.
For Ascot all my fastest are for the Saturday standard meetings.
Weird and doubt very much it is just coincidental.

Was not the track watered for East coast horses last year, or was that Belmont. Question needs to be pondered will it apply this year. :?:

Carey with his knowledge of Timing and Rating would be a good volunteer, on the sprinkler control. Time period of water supplied at rate of laying, would be right up his alley. However if he rocks up in Snorkel and Flippers save you'r money for PINJAR on Sunday.

    Thank you my Mr Lordwater.

I can think of one place I would love to stick a sprinkler!!

Actually I was just looking at the Victorian ratings for those invaders.
    Had to have a chuckle.
Your handicappers do not want a WA horse to win, or why then would he say there is only .5 kg between Victoria and WA.
Their ratings have jumped a lousy 1 point only.

If I was a WA trainer I would be furious that they are handing out free invitations to the eastern state horses at the expense of their own.

    .5kg indeed!!!
Knock it off Mr Hunter, surely you live in fantasy or cloud cuckoo land if you honestly believe that to be correct.
I must be old fashioned, as I always thought the purpose of handicapping was to handicap.
Seemingly it is no longer so.
If a WA horse wins the race, it in no way alters the fact that he is dreaming.

Do any of the trackwork spies know if all runners in the Railway this week worked ? I know not all worked at breakfast with the stars but did they all get a hit out ?

Lords Ransom - best roughie. Maybe be aiming at Pth Cup but could go well fresh.
As with most years luck in running to decide the outcome!

Wrt watering, I'm sure they will still apply more! Drainage was over- engineered when new track put in, it drains too quick!

Surprised by this interest in Lords Ransom. He'll be last or alongside it in a moderately run race, with some ok G1 animals in front of him. If he ran in the first half of the field I'd be surprised.

I think the horse should be in the spelling paddock, and he ran like it last start. Just no zip. Don't know what his work was like this week.
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
His last run wasnt that bad given the position he was in during the run, was never going to pick them up from there. Going on last years run in the railway where he was absolutely chopped up, he'd be a good chance in this BUT bar shoes on both fronts is a concern.

Only thing I could say in his favour is that it was his first run back from Melb, and Keytomoney improved markedly at his second run back, maybe he'll do the same.

Aside from that, he's not good enough for this.

He was way too fresh last year for this race. I thought last week he just lacked over the last 100M and the first 5 pulled away from him in the concluding stages.

Grand Nirvana is the best of the locals for mine. Comes into the race very fit and with luck in running would have won either of his last two lead up races. Hopefully the barrier will not disadvantage him.

Lords Ransom would need to be $40+ to be a betting proposition, but I will be including in my trifecta. I'm not too concerned about what looks to be a lack of pace. 9 out of 10 Railways are solidly run affairs.

Anyone heading to the cas today for the preview show?
    I'm hoping to get there
  • darkshinesdarkshines    2,837 posts
Where'd you get that stat from? The last two were walks
  • TheDivaTheDiva    13,248 posts
Grand Nirvana was held safely by Colour Correct last start over the last 50m..after colour correct raced wide and had a torrid run. Lords Ransom is a fair dinkum 100/1 shot in my book. Cant have either of them.
