Got a shock when I saw his name on trial winners for Gav Slater today, has been here before, does anyone know the reasoning behind this. A very controversial jockey where trouble usually finds him in some way or another, I suppose a bit of colour for Ascot even though he is getting pretty long in the tooth!

Must have been desperate for riders, I know quite a few knocked the offer back.

Regan was in strife in Hong Kong

The Irish rider is wanted by Hong Kong police after he jumped bail and failed to return to answer race- fixing allegations.

Egan was first arrested in February as part of Operation Green Grass - an attempt to sweep corruption out of Hong Kong horse racinghorse racing.

The Chinese-controlled region's Independent Commission Against Corruption questioned Egan for 36 hours about suspected illegal gambling dens.

But he and South African jockey Robert Fradd were released without charge, though they had their travel documents removed.

After a court appearance a bail of Hong Kong$250,000 ((32,000) was set and Egan was allowed to leave.

He was told he had to return to the island to face more questioning on June 30.

The current arrest warrant was issued by a Hong Kong court when Egan failed to return to face the music.

Egan has always denied the charges and slammed the "disgraceful" way he has been treated by the corruption inquiry.

Top jockey John Egan escaped a jail sentence on Monday after he admitted taking a shotgun and ammunition to the home of his estranged wife.
The Irish rider's wife Sandra had earlier obtained a court order banning him from contacting her or going to the family home.

Seems like such a pleasant fellow

    Recently

John Egan's stint in Mauritius looks like coming to an end after trainer Serge Henry informed the Mauritius Turf Club he will not ask for a renewal of the jockey's contract.

The Irishman was banned for a third time after being found guilty of improper riding in Saturday's Azul Plate, in which he and French jockey Edouard Lacaille were given fines and bans.

Egan was given a three-week suspension and a fine of 25,000 rupees (?540) for improper riding on Cool Hand Luke and Lacaille given the same ban, with a fine of 20,000 rupees (?430) for having struck Egan with his whip at the start of the back straight.

Marty Young has just confirmed on 6PR that Egan will stay on riding here for a couple of months after the Jockey Challenge.

Young also commented that there will be an opportunity for racegoers to meet and have caps signed by the the various international jockeys.
