Fast forward four years and Freo has turned him into an AA full back, and now Anthony declares he wants to go home for personal reasons, in swoops Collingwood with pick 86 and Freo lose another one...
  • can work the other way too

I saw a bit of the draft earlier. They make a big production of the first draft pick, as they should, because this guy is number one in the country.

It loses some of the sense of occasion when the lad picked is already wearing the polo shirt of the club that picks him.

From Heraldsun expert analyst about WCE drafting:

"Very, very conservative. Don't really understand how a club can finish bottom and only use three picks at the national draft. The took a father-son at pick No. 62 but they were basically out of the draft at 29"

But they have a premiership squad, so only needed a few.
Well so Woosha keeps saying....
Imo should have taken Polec over Gaff, but then again I advocated Freo take Rich over Hill. Tell will tell, but 1 thing is certain.
It will be another disappointing season for West Coast.

I'm happy with Freo's picks. There first 2 picks seem investments for the future and probably won't see much AFL action next year. But also used their later picks astutely to picks up young but seasoned players in Faulks, Griffin and Mzungu, with Anthony to come in the PSD.
There squad seems to have more depth now, which was needed. Should be even more competition for spots and pressure on gusy to perform consistently

Freo will regret picking Pitt over Darling for many years to come...

    How predictable . . . Yawn.

Genuinely surprised theyd take another 'bad boy'. Sounds like a great kid from what I've heard.

I reckon West Coast would have done the same.
They could do with a few/lot of players who can hit targets....
    Best kick at draft camp.

According to the kicking test he wasn't even close.

Some of the highly rated kickers didn't excel at the kicking test, due to the fact they had to be efficient on both sides.

He was regarded as one of the best users by foot in the draft, but you can leave the camp out of it, because that did nothing to boost his standings.

In fact he didn't excel in any of the tests except the agility run where he finished 10th, no doubt due to the fact he is built like a twig and could just run straight at the sticks.

But don't let your lack of knowledge get in the way of an informed opinion.

    Righto.

Like I said a year ago, you can watch as much Under 18s, dissect as much data as ya want, if you're a bad judge . . . . you're a bad judge.

We would not have picked Pitt over Darling, we have always been very keen on him but his poor 2010 year to his standards (CHF AA 2009) meant that he was too big a risk at pick 4 and yes we need a heap of good ball users but we are slowly starting to add them.

While our ball use is certainly a problem it can also be said it will improve as our young list develops. It is not simply about poor foot skills, rather a poor team under pressure and disposing of it accordingly.

But this is not my biggest concern, it is that we have added too many inside vanilla mids over the past 4 or so years that are one dimensional, in that they can't play other roles/positions competently enough. Trying to get all these young midfielders in the same team is going to be interesting to watch.

See Pettifer and Polak are playing in the WAFL this season coming.

No doubt with a view to be getting picked up by West Coast in next years draft :thumpsup3:

Fremantle has picked up South Australian duo Gavin Roberts and Nick Lower in the NAB AFL Rookie Draft.

Nineteen-year-old Roberts, from Norwood, was taken with pick 20 after training with Fremantle in recent weeks.

He is a medium-sized player with good athleticism and elite speed and endurance.
Lower, 23, also from Norwood, was selected in the second round (pick 37).

He was drafted by Port Adelaide in the 2005 AFL Draft (pick 30) and played 20 games in four seasons with the Power before being delisted at the end of the 2009 season.

The medium-sized Lower played mostly as a half-back flanker at Port Adelaide and had a reputation for being a hard-at-it type.

Fremantle also gave AFL lifelines to Ben Bucovaz (pick 53) and Tim Ruffles (pick 68).

The pair, who were drafted by Freo in the 2008 AFL Draft, were both delisted at the end of the 2010 season but will get another crack at a spot on the senior list.

Nope, surprisingly enough Hansen and Notte were overlooked.
