They race at Broome for the second week in a row this week.

Roebourne has a $17k sprint and a $12k 68+ 1800m race. Decent prizemoney.

Keenelander, Broome horse of the year goes around again.

Map of Roebourne racecourse....looks a dusty joint:

Heres the map of Broome for anyone hasnt been there. Track is doused in oil, which makes it the dark brown colour.

Now when you look at the map and see the home straight, well that is how far Keenelander won by.

Give us a mini review whenever you are ready Broomecup. You have already stated that Keenelander will be a $1.10 shot this week.

I was thinking, if the remainder were 12 lens behind, surely the two chasing cant blame the clods of dirt being kicked up as excuses?

One thing is for sure Danish and that is that the oil keeps the dust down. It also provides a unique smell, not offensive, not overpowering, that says I am at the Broome Races.

    Spot on bc4e....

Keenelander drawn 12, the only difference that makes is punters can try and find a reason for it to get beat and we end up with a better price. It could start from the sand dunes and still win.

Careful, bc4e...many a slip etc etc. Never know, Mike might stand it...

He'll stand it because it's in his blood, just hope that I am the one getting the best price.

The track at Roebourne is dusty due to the Red clay & Pindan dirt, it has been like that since 1867.
The committee have spoken about the dust in the past years & suggestions were to oil it like what Broome has, but due to the water table & the Harding River near by this was not possibile (EPA). Grassing it also popped up with the use of the water from the water bores beside the track (Harding River) but who knows?

The Shire Of Roebourne who maintain the track 3 days before the meet with a water truck & a grader & they do a brilliant job.

But speaking to Trainers, jockeys, owners & spectators, with the facilities & the track they say it's one of the best (dirt tracks) around. Big track with a long straight & plenty of room to move, if their up front on the pace or coming from behind it gives every horse a winning chance if good enough.

Two of their biggest meetings Shire of Roebourne Harding Cup/Ladies Day & Roebourne Cup are coming up to see the year out & the club is expecting a big crowd & turn over for both days.

Just on your point about the water table and the river......how is it you think the Broome Turf Club are allowed to pour oil into the dirt at guantheame point? isnt it a nature reserve?

7 big races in Broome on Saturday.
Seachanger looks hard to beat in the first,
A Little Divided in the eliminator, the rest may be long term maidens,
Lordsea as long as it doesn't sit 48 wide the trip, guess who backed it last start???
Keenelander just shows up and wins
With a Flourish to bounce back, should lead and win
Utility came from last on the corner, first up over 1200m last start to run 4th.... it is however a rising 10 year old with 61kgs
Stormish to give Shorty a winner in the last

    SSSShhhhh

Or we will have all the tree huggers that are protesting at James Price Point show up and stop the races.

Ive got a question if anybody can help me out re Broome and/or other country WA meets.

I play the exotics in Broome and have been wagering through one of the corporates. I jagged an exacta yesterday that payed $123 on Ozbet. Because I was getting better than second best of three totes, i got only $48, which was the best of the VIC and NSW totes. Unitab payed $80 odd. I was expecting the $80 dividend which would have been the middle of $123, $80, $48.

I know we share pools for metropolitan meetings, but is this not the case for country meets such as Broome?

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Rizza

WA only shares Win, Place, Trifecta and Quaddie pools for all Australian (plus HK, NZ and UK) races that are covered by supertab,

While I agree with you that quinellas etc should be pooled I get the impression that WA TAB is not doing anything at the moment.

Thanks Tony... much appreciated. Also a follow-up question, does anyone know the approximate take-out for the exotic pools, and if the pools displayed on ozbet are pre or post take-out??

    quinella(14.75% supertab/20% ozbet) , exactas (16.5% supertab/20% ozbet)
    doubles(17% supertab,20% ozbet), quartet/first 4(supertab 22.5%, ozbet 20%)
    trifectas(20% ozbet & supertab),quaddies(20% supertab & ozbet)

displayed pools will be before commission is removed.

This week it took until race 5 for a leader to win. All but 2 came from behind? Maybe our man on the spot can explain?

Keenelander, maybe the back up cost it this week?
  • thefalconthefalcon    20,481 posts
Our man in Broome is probably ducking pots & pans after he lost the family jewels on Keenlander...
    He was distinctly over-confident...

Was (and was moved on because is) a speedy squib, and still is a speedy squib.
But best of luck to the boys up there. They're having a great time with her, good to see.
Anyone else want to buy a horse ??? ;)

Tivs, if a guy of your acumen is flogging a horse..I'm afraid the answer would be a resounding "No"!!!
    No offence, mate...

    Sure about that ?
Have sold off many a good one, and don't think have sold one that hasn't at least won a race.

    Checking in with the update.

Interesting results at the weekend, track had some work done to it this week, and the results varied accordingly. There wasn't as much backwash this week.

Keenelander was a bit flat, lacked her usual ping out of the barriers, but only got run down in the last 50m. Falcon, don't worry, didn't cost me a cent. Odds on look on, they all get beat. 2 weeks to the next meeting, she will freshen up, and win again.

Tivers, I'll have a couple of Keenelanders at the same price thanks.

Shorty was very unlucky in the last, got taken to the middle of the track, which cost him ground and also gave the winner the run.... got beat a nose.

Black Caviar's 3/4 brother Ibsen simply blew them away in the sprint, will win again.

Different days racing, not sure how the form will stand up.
