I'm pretty sure Paul doesn't ask for too much outside of his race riding fee which is the same as everyone else. I am sure he accepts thank you's for a job well done, just as everyone else does.

He certainly didn't ask me for anything when he rode two of mine a couple of seasons ago.

Maybe my information or understanding of his fee's is not as good as ChuckRackman's.

And they certainly don't offer to hand their fee back when they chop one up :P

    Good point Funk .
i think you will find slinging is still unwritten all owner/most owners do and i think they should as if you have had a bet throw a bit more but maybe give the gang at the stables a few dollars they do all the work behind the scenes but dont sling ther jock and see what happens next start !!!!

  dungey...and it doesn't matter who rides it..

by the time the trainer & jock get their %s, then a sling and then the strapper and stable hands, if you are not a punter there is not much left of the purse, especially for a country win.

Not a drama with the stable staff Falc as they work there asses of for min wage and they keep the horse happy and in a good place they deserve a bit more IMO

Why should the stable staff get a sling? Do you get a sling when you do a great job? I don't.

    Hi Dungy,
I pay for the purchase of the horse, daily training rate, swimming, vitamins, shoes, transport, etc. Then if my horse wins, I pay 10% to the trainer and 5% to the jockey. Then they want their slings.
This is not charity. I don't get any returns if my horse is a second slower than the winner, or if my horse hurts itself in the float, and then it can never run again.
    I reckon I pay enough.
    Keep Smilin'
    K.B

P.S If they don't reckon they get enough, get another job.

Who does then? It's my horse who gets the prizemoney. The race clubs pay it on the behalf of the owners.

What PB is saying it comes out of your winners cheque but in theory you do it pay it .

the Prizemoney is only 85% yours, it was never 100% of yours to begin with, your horse races for your share which is 85%, even though the trainer and jock don't own it they get paid their % by the Club. None of the 15% is coming out of your pocket. They do not pay it on behalf of the owners, if you have been under this impression then you are surely in the dark, because a race is worth 100k to the winner, its not rocket science the owners share is 85%.

Basically Kerrin...its you get 85% of winning income and pay 100% of the bill plus more for the sling
and the sling effectively is just another bill....Personally sounds like word play cause no matter how you cut it... Maybe they should list the prize money at 15% less,,but i guess it looks more impressive on paper to have the bigger bucks for the winners....maybe they could call it the winners are grinners tax

    Rubbish.

If I win a 2yr old race in Perth the first prizemoney is 32.5k, it's listed as the horse having earned 32.5k in every record moving forward. It doesn't list $27,625...

Just because the turf club pays the trainer and jocks share before it gets to me means squat, my horse earned it and I fund the 15% through my horses earnings. So yes as an owner I subsidise that 15% therefor I pay for it.

    Not rocket science.

'Kicking in $2M next year' ?

Who do you think stumps up with the $1M now ? The WA betting public do, via RWWA.

Wherever Perth Racing get their money from, be it sponsors, gate receipts, bar takings, or food, their contributions according to this year's Annual Report are 1/5th of what they did in 2007. Just from the two most previous year's they have almost halved.

So let's not pump up their tyre's.

Let me know if I am reading this all wrong. Take not of the Auditors page.

Spoke with someone a couple of days ago that has some business ties to WA and regularly visits here from his Melbourne base. Unfortunately we are seen as a joke on the East Coast at the moment.

As much as that may seem the case NOW.....in a years time do you honestly think they would avoid coming here?

Damien with the prize money on offer....doubt they would be put off...and really...They might very well think were a joke in the wild west ,,but im betting they would be still happy to take the JOKER's prize money
