Waller and Schofield quizzed over tactics Clinton Payne Saturday, 11 February 2012
Sydney?s leading trainer Chris Waller and Chad Schofield were hauled before stewards to explain the tactics the apprentice adopted aboard Mr Bolinger in the ATC Foundation Membership (1300m), won by the stablemate Said Com at Rosehill on Saturday.
Chief steward Ray Murrihy told the inquiry Schofield sent Mr Bolinger, the leader, through the first 500 metres of the race, one second quicker than the average time for the class over the distance.
"Suspicious eyes, suspicious minds when you?ve got the favourite in the race,? Murrihy said.
Schofield said he was instructed to be in the "first two? in the run before conceding he?d probably overdone it.
Waller told the inquiry that a conversation with the horse?s former trainer Terri Rae had been the reason for sending the horse forward in the race.
Waller said Rae had told him Mr Bolinger "is lazy? and his "best runs were when he was in the first two?.
Stewards adjourned their questioning and will contact Rae before deciding if the matter goes any further.
Perhaps he is sick of training good ones for them to be taken off his hands and sent O/S.... Won't ever train a Black Caviar, Makybe Diva, Sunline, Northerly, Kingston Town etc for the entire career, thus won't get full recognition OR satisfaction that other trainers get when they win the big ones!!!
i am sure the guy realises that he is the aust. arm of the largest racing empire in the world. if he has a couple "out of the box" of course 'head office" will want to showcase them internationally. They win enough group races here so i think Mr. Sheik would be more than happy with Peter's work ethic and success rate.....And I'm no fan of Darley.... :x
yeah..one week. what about the times they have multiple winners in 3 states..? bit like saying gai hasn't trained a winner for 2 weeks....so what!! have a look at her & sowdens records.
