Fox Footy Channel - thoughts?

Well it seems that after years of pathetic broadcast deals and delayed games we're coming into a new era!

Most of us here won't worry that it is on pay TV - as we probably all have the sport package anyway!

Here's a taste of what the new channel will bring to TV screens across Australia:

* Fox Footy will launch on air with the exclusive NAB Cup triangular match between Hawthorn, Richmond and North Melbourne on Friday February 17, 2012

* Fox Footy will be a standard inclusion at no extra charge for Foxtel?s basic sports tier in a standard Foxtel broadcast subscription package. Supplemental charges will apply for HD and Xbox customers.

* There is not a match during the home-and-away season that Fox Footy will not broadcast LIVE, in HD and SD UNINTERRUPTED siren to siren. This includes the Anzac day game, Dreamtime at the G, Mother's Day clash, Showdowns, Derbys, Q Clash, Carlton v Collingwood etc. Every match and always LIVE, UNINTERRUPTED and in HD. :lol:

* All finals matches (other than the grand final) will be broadcast LIVE, in HD and SD UNINTERRUPTED siren to siren.

* Where there are two games at any one time (for example on a Saturday afternoon), one LIVE game will be on Fox Footy, the other LIVE game will be on Fox Sports 1. Fox Footy will be the channel of destination ? Fox Sports 1 will be the channel dealing with LIVE game clashes.

* The NAB Cup is EXCLUSIVE to Foxtel (other than the grand final, which Channel Seven will simulcast with Fox Footy) ? and Fox Footy will show 29 NAB Cup matches EXCLUSIVE & LIVE, in HD & UNINTERRUPTED siren to siren.

* In Victoria: In a regular nine-game round, the Saturday early afternoon game will be broadcast on a 90-minute delay on Seven. It is LIVE on Fox Footy along with all other eight games in the round.

And the most important factor of all...

Will Eddie McGuire commentate Collingwood matches on FOX SPORTS?
No.

How's this for a first...

Will the broadcast of Friday night footy be live?
Yes, it will be live for all Friday night games including for the first time in South Australia and Western Australia.

I am in the process of looking at getting Foxtel, mainly for the footy. Any suggestions for a newbie to foxtel, all i want is the basic and the sport.

Is IQ worth the extra cash?

I dont have a HD plasma, so dont need the HD.

Got an offer in the mail for a $50 per month for the basic and sport package but unfortunately it expired at the end of last year.

The $50 deal would be quite good - standard cost would be $61 for the basic+sport package.

iQ or iQHD is very good, and $10 is reasonable for what you're getting - but all relative to whether you need it. I use it, but I also have a Blu-Ray Recorder and use that for FTA and can output my foxtel to that also (albeit only in SD)

Ring Foxtel and you'd probably be able to still get that deal!

IQ a must (will drive you nuts if you don't have it)

Couldn't give a toss re HD. Same channels, just in a (scaled back) HD format (ie not even full HD)

The HD is worth it IMO.

I don't have the HD function yet, as they are only broadcasting 720p/1080i at the moment. Although very little TV is actually recorded in 1080p, it is mainly only used for films, so it may stay as 1080i for a long time yet! 1080i can be FullHD, but it can also be less than FullHD

Most people don't know that 720p actually has a higher vertical resolution than 1080i and that 720p is actually the better of those two for sports!

720p = 720 horizontal lines
1080i = 540 horizontal lines x 2 fields

As long as i get footy and racing i am happy!

Yeah, sounds like you spoke to someone wanting to go home for the day, gotta treat them mean to keep them keen (for your cash).

Would be $10 more if u want IQ. I wasn't bothered as by the time I get around to watching something i've recorded something better is on anyway! :lol:

Have to say not sure AFL fans have ever had it this good (sure we have to pay for it), but (now) 9 live games per weekend on Fox Footy Channel, and clashing games to be shown live on Fox Sports 1,2 or 3.

Commercial free siren to siren! Sounds pretty damn good to me! :)

I reckon if I could be bothered doing a search I'd find a few mentions, but I can't, anyway onto footy, Ive heard the scan is just a formality and its a season job, I hope I'm wrong, if it is one of Hams, Strijk or Hill will need to step up.
