Black Caviar in the UK - Royal Ascot

TRAINER Peter Moody said the barrier draw for the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday night was largely irrelevant for Black Caviar.

''I've been watching the straight races closely this week and they seem to be winning from everywhere,'' Moody said.

''I don't think it really matters where she draws. She's got the tactical speed to put herself in the right spot.''

Black Caviar drew the outside of the 15-horse field for the Diamond Jubilee and remains a dominant $1.30 favourite in England to win her 22nd race in succession.

She will start closest to the grandstand side of the Ascot straight course.

The final field was certainly larger than most had expected but Australia's other big sprint hopeful, Ortensia was a notable absentee.

Ortensia suffered a minor back problem when only ninth in Tuesday's King's Stand Stakes, prompting trainer Paul Messara to miss the Diamond Jubilee Stakes and concentrate on getting the mare ready for the July Cup at Newmarket next month.

Godolphin has accepted to run former Australian Group 2 winner Soul with Frankie Dettori to ride from barrier eight.

Black Caviar's main opposition, the French-trained second favourite Moonlight Cloud starts from barrier five.

Black Caviar completed her workout prior to the big race with some pacework on the Al Bathari track at Newmarket this morning.

After the gallop, heavy rain swept over Newmarket but Moody remains unconcerned about the prospect of striking a wet track tomorow.

"She's trialled on very heavy ground and got through it OK so I'm not really worried," he said.

"She's the fittest I've had her in the past 24 months. Her work has been very pleasing since arriving here. I couldn't be happier."

Moody said he wasn't about to ask Black Caviar to ''do a Frankel'' and win the feature sprint by a huge margin, adding ''a quarter of an inch will do as long as she is in front''.

"I'd love nothing more than to see her come out and win by 10 or 11 lengths," Moody said.

''But with this mare, it is always about looking her and thinking about her next race.

''The Poms have been using us Aussies as cannon fodder for 150 years so we're not going to put on a show just for them."

As the countdown to the big race continues, Moody again praised Black Caviar's owners for risking the great mare's unbeaten record by running her in England.

''We all saw the best local horse Frankel win here on Tuesday, but he's never going to leave the UK, his owners will never take him away from home," Moody said.

"But this mare's owners have had the balls to put her on a plane and travel halfway around the world and that is something phenomenal.

''Imagine having something this good and sharing it with the rest of the world."

Moody saying she wasn't 100% right and she might be retired.

Absolutely, if she isn't 100% after this trip, they'll make the right decision - for a sprinter to win $6.5 million odd is a massive achievement and to stay undeafeated even bigger - if they do retire her atleast she can go straight to the breeding barn this season.

Also she has another record to her name - for the most traded horse on Betfair - $12.6 million (and the most traded horse in-play!)

Pitty the real BC didn't turn up..but she still beat them despite that and not being ridden out in the final 50...not to mention she travelled across the globe also, shows how good she is..its time for the poms to bring their best to oz for real prize money n prove themselves for a change.. I'm sure we can expect frankel in the cox plate this year.............lol if he comes il wave a little flag with his colours...:p

I don't know what to think.

There were lots of people saying she must have been lame and moody said she pulled up sore.

Then i think that she raced EXACTLY like she did in adelaide in that first race. She just wasn't impressive. I wonder if she has lost her turn of foot. Could moody have pulled another typhoon tracy :lol: :lol:

Either way i would retire her a legend. If she runs like that again she may lose her invincibility which makes her so great.

He was reminded of the rule relating to 'negligence by jockey'

As far as the rankings go, Frankel still has a lot to prove - going overseas is number 1.

After watching that race last night, unless the HK sprint was up the straight, whcih I don't think it is - I would not be going - HK jocks might not let her off that easy!

I'll throw my hat in the retirement corner at the moment, unless she peaks right back up again for the spring - fact is here, nothing can beat her when she is 100% - but that is the question!

Apparently has a history of muscle tears.

A night out last night and couldn't believe the amount of people who were not interested in the race while it was being shown. I think if Lara Bingle was on she would have attracted more interest.

The good news, Black Caviar can be treated for the muscle tears while in Newmarket quarantine. No decision on future until she gets home.

CHAMPION mare Black Caviar has suffered two muscle tears and severe bruising to her hind quarters in her famous win in the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on Sunday.

Trainer Peter Moody confirmed Black Caviar had pulled up sore after her narrow win.

Veterinarians inspected the mare this morning at her Newmarket stable base and located the muscle injury and bruising.

Moody said he was unsure at what stage of the race Black Caviar suffered her injuries.

However, the trainer said veterinarians had informed him ?she would have definitely felt it during the run?.

?She?s had something like this before,? Moody said.

?She?s entering quarantine today, we?re sending her home, but we?ll be able to have the injuries treated whilst she?s in quarantine.?

Moody said Black Caviar ate up after her Royal Ascot win but admitted the mare was ?very flat and tired? this morning.

Moody said no decision on Black Caviar?s racing future would be made until after the mare had returned to Australia, recovered from her injuries and enjoyed a deserved spell.

Moody is still hopeful Black Caviar will be right to race in Melbourne again during the coming spring carnival.

Black Caviar?s muscle injuries and bruising could explain why her customary acceleration and speed were missing during the Diamond Jubilee Stakes.

The 'Wonder from Down Under' was still poised to register another comfortable win when jockey Luke Nolen controversially dropped his hands near the line, almost costing the mare her unbeaten record.

Once again Black Caviar has been able to overcome the odds to keep her 22-race undefeated streak going.

In hindsight, given the vagaries of travel, Nolen?s riding blunder and the injuries the mare sustained during the race, the Diamond Jubilee Stakes may now go down as one of her greatest ever wins.
