Ladies Day is now a distant memory, and the focus heads to The Cup. Yes it is Grand Final day in Broome. All the luminaries are in town, even John O’Shea has been spotted. It’s now down to the serious business of trying to find some winners to fund the required drinking that I will have to do over the next couple of days. Reinforcements are flying in as we speak, and the fresh legs may prove hard to keep up with over the next few days.

History shows that horses that win on Ladies’ day, can win again on Cup Day, just a matter of finding which ones.

Race 1

Orosasso looks hard to beat, dropping in class from her good 5th in the fillies and mares race on Tuesday. She has early speed and should be able to get into a nice position. Feel the Force will lead, however has been quite weak at the end of his races….. but at least if you are on speed then you are a chance. Affair Lies was a 17 start maiden before Tuesday and had the race set up for him, with the leaders going mad and him just sitting in behind them.

Race 2

The Pipe was ultra impressive winning last start, despite running around a bit. Interesting gear change of the 182’s coming off (as in the visors, everyone has their own terminology for blinkers and this is mine), but if this doesn’t affect him he should win. Keenelander will lead early, but is a shadow of the horse she was last year. De Mews ran a fair race on Tuesday and looked very well in the yard.

Race 3

Extremely tough race and wouldn’t want to be feeding most of these. Atomic Tiger won his maiden well, coming from well back on a day where leaders dominated, however it was a late season maiden, and the form out of the maidens hasn’t been strong this year. I stand to be corrected but off the top of my head I don’t think a maiden winner has won another race this season. McAre  coming off a freshen up could go well, with D Pateman’s team on fire ATM.  Look for value and avoid anything short.

Race 4

Yoakam bounced back to form on Tuesday and can win again. Delta Reign was impressive at Port Hedland, however his racing style does not suit Broome. The Key Cutter will lead, and that gives him a better thn even chance of filling the top end of results.

Race 5

Great race with lots of top end speed, with lots of chances. Danzmait continues to lead and win, and was super impressive on Tuesday. In saying that there is a lot of depth here, so look for value. Star Crest has obviously had problems, but if right could surprise. Enriching won well on Ladies’ Day, but is carrying as much weight as me.

Race 6

If they allow Seize Control to walk in front again it will win again, however surely this won’t happen. I will be backing Marseillaise, and hoping it is a truly run race. I will also be having a little each way on Sportsground, I thought his effort in the Kimberley Cup was good, and he will be further improved, with this race being his main target the whole season. Tawakoni got back last start on a leaders track, but is an out and out stayer and is over the odds at $17.

Race 7

A race in 3, with Zip Code looking close to a good thing. Satan’s Playground will lead, and is a big chance if unpressured, however Willie Arnold won’t let that be the case. Liquidation won this race easily last year, however the 64.5kgs evens the playing field a little. Of the others, Prince of Silk gets to his preferred distance, and could fill a place.

Race 8

I will be drunk by now so I hope I am in front. Wouldn’t be taking the shorts about Demigod, was ridden perfectly last start and just fell in.Idiocity will be there abouts, with Nike Heir, Chenonceau Lady, Street Player and Dastardly some hope. A wide open affair that I will only be getting involved with if I am chasing my tail.

Should be a great day, I am in a tent with it all layed on, and am not looking forward to Sunday morning.

The Calcutta is tonight, and if I get time I will report back with the prices.

whats the point in taking liquidation up there on the last day and race with 64.5kg.

seems a bit odd to me..

Liquidation has been up here all year and is meant to be absolutely flying. The 64.5kgs is a steadier, and Zip Code is going well, but it is in it up to his eyeballs.
