RWWA Stewards will inquire into a report received from the ChemCentre (Perth) in regard to the presence of a banned substance in the urine sample taken from Jockey Clint Harvey at the Lark Hill Barrier Trials on Monday, 5 November 2012.
The reserve portion of the urine sample taken from Mr Harvey has been referred to another Official Racing Laboratory for confirmatory analysis and following receipt of the results an Inquiry will be held at a time and date to be fixed.
Acting under the provisions of ARR.81A(3) Jockey Harvey has been stood down effective immediately from riding trackwork, trials and races until the conclusion of the Stewards’ Inquiry.

Penalties are already harsh enough. You can't legislate against stupidity. Many drugs will kill you but it doesn't stop idiots from getting on the stuff.

Lots of nice people take drugs, smoke, drink etc.. :D

exactly my point torp. we all have our vices....some of us speed, some of us drink too much, others take drugs.
    we're not all perfect.
It may not be reported in the west because the result has yet to be verified.

I don't drink, gave up over 20 years ago. I gave up smoking in 1990, was on 60-70 a day towards the end. I have never used a drug in my life that wasn't prescribed by a Doctor, and in respect to them I try and stay away from them as much as I can. It doesn't mean I am healthy and probably won't change life expectancy, but at least I have made a conscious decision to make an effort. Whatever decisions I have made are of course mine. I shouldn't expect anyone to applaud nor condemn.

The life of a Jockey is tough though. Personally I prefer to eat what I like without a thought as to how it impacts on my working career. But Jockeys don't have that luxury. Sometimes when life gets hard, quick and easy solutions seem like a good idea at the time, but that's only because it seems like a good idea. In reality it is a little bit silly and I think whatever Clint may have done, he would now regret.

Personal comments by you good folk, would simply be doing nothing to assist him this morning. So please bare that in mind when making comment.

he needs support...we were all young once...better decision making comes with age or with knowledge..

I KNOW...the beer in my hand and the smoke are bad for me...try taking them off me...no chance

I struggle to quit...so im not gonna throw stones here.....Rather,I hope he gets help and understanding from the racing community

Mate do you know Clint ????? id say that by calling him an idiot that you probably dont , yes its not his first time for this sort of thing and if you knew the bloke you would know how hard he works and trys his best ,he always strives to be in the top list of jockeys here .He is certainly not a boffhead , idiot, dickhead , slow learner or what ever else people on here want to call him . If people on here think that he is the only one that plays up at times then they dont really know what they are talking about i will not mention names BUT let me tell you hes not alone , i know its no excuse to keep reoffending and am quiet sure clint is aware of is but name calling and kicking a bloke when hes down is low and un australian in my book.

Don't agree with everything you say Rick, but Clint certainly seems to get more of this than most of the others who are doing similar stuff......Maybe someone has it in for him..But at the end of the day he keeps doing stuff that could get him in trouble.

he needs to stop doing stuff, or he will probably be suspended out of this industry.

Bumped into Clint on my way thru the stables..and thought."what a nice young bloke"
You cant judge people only by the mistakes they make and lthen label them on it.

Can i ask ...what support does he get?

What you say Rick is technically right, but gee how many times in the past few years has his name been in print for all the wrong reasons. Gotta grow up or learn sometime, or if you don't then you jhave got to expect people on a forum will pass comment of some kind

Rick... i like Clint and reckon he is a good bloke..only met him a few times, but people who i hold in high regard, vouch for him often.. but he keeps on putting himself in the wrong place or with the wrong people...At his age he has to take responsibility for his actions and go and get the help that he needs..

Yes he does need support, but as an adult - and no longer under the apprentice system - if he farks up he has to deal with it...He seems to put the effort in for a few months and then have a brain failure and stuff up...He has to have a better grip of his situation and stop the stuff ups...and only he can do that, cos only he can identify when and in what situation he is stuffing up.

Some people just have addictive personalities.

Met a heap of them along the way, most of them really good people just can't help themselves.

When your so not like that it's hard to get your head around it and often wonder why they don't just "grow up", "get over it", or just "stop doing it".

Sounds like he is a good bloke so good luck to him.

now you guys listen to this...."IF YOU LAY DOWN WITH DOGS, YOU GET FLEAS"
end of story...he has taken one good lad down with him.
    i reckon 5 years....
  • Idiot. Falc, absolute idiotic comment.

what do you mean, colin? an idiotic comment...where?
the lad has had so many chances, you have to draw the line somewhere.
he got out of that kalgoorlie business by the skin of his teeth, how can you coddle him?
i don't know the chap, but he is more than an average rider, he comes over very well on wes's interviews.
he seems to be his own worse enemy.
whether he can salvage his career is questionable.

Many a gifted athlete have ruined their careers by a lack of self-discipline.

The rap sheet for Clinto certainly doesn't read well and I'd suspect the disqualification will be a very lengthy one. If he is smart, he will take the time to re-assess his life and make the changes required. I wish him all the best.

I don't know anything about thoroughbreds, in hindsight just get a stiff and ride the next sucker away. I gave up smoking the bruce in 1990, was on double time towards the end. I have never used a strap-on in my life that wasn't prescribed by a Doctor, and in respect to them I try and stay away from them as much as I can. It doesn't mean I am wanting to play rich businessmen into property or this industry and probably won't change life expectancy, but at least I have made a conscious decision to make an effort. Whatever decisions I have made are of course mine. I shouldn't expect anyone to applaud nor condemn.

The life of a Jockey is tough though. Personally I prefer to spend wealthy businessmens capital on misconcieved judgments what I like without a thought as to how it impacts on my working career. But Jockeys don't have that luxury. Sometimes when life gets hard, quick and easy solutions seem like a good idea at the time, but that's only because it seems like a good idea. When does Clinto go up ?
If found guilty he will get a long suspension i think but riding should be the last thing on his mind getting of the gear should be number 1 priority in his life ,he has ridden one for me before and came across a nice fella and pretty honest but he must have some problems he needs to sort

It is not about whether he is a nice bloke, which from all accounts it sounds he is.

It is about the safety of jockeys and horses in races and trials. You cannot have someone under the influence of drugs or alcohol out there on the track. What if he causes a fall and kills or injures someone with drugs in his system?
Will you all be saying he is a nice bloke then?
  • RIORIO    14,902 posts
I would scenic 11...but the reasons you state above is the reason why he has to change his ways and why he should be gone for a long time this time...I think the level of support that he has got on here is just an indication that good people get hooked by this shit that is in our communities as well.

There is no way he should be cut any slack, or be shown any mercer by the stewards.....Just that in my opinion he is a good bloke who has tried to beat his demons and even with the penalties he has been given..... still can’t.

I think the 5yrs Falcon talked about is obviously excessive, but I can see him having a long period of time to make some hard decisions about where his future is.
