I wonder why I bother at times - last week, This Time Dylan goes to the line hard held after having opportunities to go 3 wide until half way down the back straight - driven very softly as if he had to be saved up for a short burst.  This week, he tramps 3 wide from the 1000m and gets up after going to the line stronger than anything else. The good old red hots. Can't wait for the stewards report - I am sure it will be illuminating (tongue firmly in cheek)

On a positive note, I'm Victorious looks like he is a very very serious horse - 1.55.9 over the distance tonight. We may well be watching an emerging champion. All class.

IV did it absolutely untouched and bolted in - he will meet much better horses over east but the last 2 starts have been of the very highest order. I hope he scores an invite to the Miracle Mile - could be a real high speed race this year.

And, yes, Hall jnr landed 6 winners (and a 2nd and a 3rd) and got the favorites home but it was last weeks terrible drives and the glaring inconsistency that is so obvious to everyone except the minnows in the stewards tower that defies credibility. Sneakyn Downunder once again driven like he was Pure Steel at his peak when he is, as Andrew correcdtly observed, an 11 year old has been.

JayJay you lack any knowledge about tactics in Harness Racing if you do not understand how This Time Dylan needs to be driven.

It is a SIT SPRINT horse ; what that means for your simple mind is that he needs cover for as possible before descending upon the front division. He came 3 wide onto the back of G'day Mate which carted him into the race with COVER. This Time Dylan races best when driven that way and as any normal person who follows the trots knows, sit sprint horses get held up more than any other horse because they need things to go their way.

As for your obvious beef with Jnr, which I don't understand why you don't like him...he's an outstanding driver who has proven himself throughout Australasia in the past 5 years as one of the best. If you don't like him that's fine, but show a little bit of respect to his driving ability and coming on here bagging him and the industry is not a good look...how about promoting the industry and the participants.

Finally, If you got off here and did more form on racing patterns and tactics in this state which has fantastic racing all over, you'd probably back more winners and wouldn't be on here whining about the Stewards, Gary Hall Jnr and Rorts....which in all honesty do not happen as much as the trots are actually perceived. You'll probably come back with a rebuttal of attack which doesn't worry me, I'm just trying to help and provide a bit of balance to this debate/discussion.

    Have a nice day.

As for I'm Victorious, that was a win with a lot of authority...truly one of his best wins and looks as if he's taken that next step. Great to see for such a good group of owners and great trainer Michael Brennan.

Gone a bit hard dark horse but have to agree the thing which maeks harness good to punt on is also the reason a lot of people bag it. You cant just pu t on the best horse, if you put the time in to work out how a race is going to be run you can be very well rewarded but you still need the luck in running which has to be factored in.

This Time Dylan had to stay in, he was trailing a good horse and cant do it himself for 700m. The drive on Shardons Rocket was just too good, holding him back to keep jnr in the pocket. Thats just how it goes sometimes, certain drivers are smart enough to hold back in the breeze if a danger is pocketed and certain drivers are not.

Yes This Time Dylan did go 3 wide this week but he did it with a trail which really you wouldnt have thought he was going to get. It was jnr's patience this week that won him the race. Gday mate was massive as he's a bit like TTD and swap the roles he probably wins but this is an example of were patience pays.

There is no dennying that jnr butchers some occasionaly ( quinnie everytime he draws well comes to mind) but he's no different to everyone else except that he wins a hell of a lot so he's easy to notice, he also drives some absolute gems and by and large he gives them there chance and its all you can ask.

watched This time Dylan and I think Woodley was on him and he drove him very hard last night and he looks like a horse that needs to hard early

No rebuttal from me - you've got a view, I've also got a view. The fact they don't correlate is life. If you want to get personal and attack, that's your prerogative.

The unknowledgeable one here, treading carefully to avoid the ire of those that know all, and with fear and trepidation of a vicious rebuke, dare I mention the Ragpickers Dream and Northview from Friday night? Both odds on and of course, both driven perfectly.
  • GilgameshGilgamesh    5,009 posts
Are you saying ragpickers was a bad drive??? Not having a go but if you are you are having a go at him for doing exactly what you wanted him to do on TTD?
  • JayJayJayJay    8,624 posts
Ah, its a fickle game isn't it. Yes, he did not get pocketed and came out 3 wide but  that gave the winner MFT a great cart up and MFT was just too good. So, no, not having a crack at that drive but it's the consistency of tactics I am concerned with. Ragpickers looks like a long striding plodding type (maybe a bit harsh) that probably couldn't sit/sprint, so I would expect tactics to be consistent.
  • GilgameshGilgamesh    5,009 posts
Yeah so much luck in running required. I dont actually think Ragpickers is that good a horse, looked great its first win but not as good since. In this case i'd say he made the right move coming out as trailing Western Cullen is not like trailing Shardons Rocket, though you wouldnt have said that 18 months ago would you!?!?
  • JayJayJayJay    8,624 posts
Yes, I agree. I rate MFT as a very handy sort and his run was excellent - he got over Ragpicker pretty easily in the end after a fairly tough run.
  • TheDarkHorseTheDarkHorse    129 posts
He drives Ragpickers in a consistent manner and it gets beaten, so it's a bad drive? You're starting to sound like the Mailman on the other discussions JayJay. You just keep proving me to be correct with your comments.

Oh good, I am so glad you are constantly proven correct. Your words "bad drive". I'll reserve that moniker for the effort on Arnoux yesterday!!!

I who know nothing here - the "sit and sprint" specialist that "must be held up" and "can't do it by himself" - tramped 3 wide the last 1000m and bolted in. Pretty good horse TDD. Seems he is very versatile as well. Which begs the question why he did not come out 3 wide at the bell 3 starts ago instead of getting hopelessly pocketed. As I stated before, its all about consistency of tactics.

Horse went super took the next step, In Jnr's defense he did hope for cover on the back of red salute but Voak gunned for the breeze. Anyways great run by TDD.

Thought this was a slightly weaker race collectively, in saying that the horse is going enormous. They went 1.27 the last 1200m of the front and he went 3deep no cover! Apparently was very good at trials the sunday before too. The form stand horses himself and Gday Mate a nice all up.

Good to see it back to 2 stands for the night. Personally I love the stands, I know we had a period there with false starts and we get some gallopers but I think if the starter just took five deep breathes before he jumped the lader and actually got them to stand instead of just screaming face the barriers stand em up and then letting them go (you'll find guys like Voak are smart enough now to just get em going as soon as he says face the barrier) all in a nano second (he really appears to hate his job) and they made it a bit harder for horses to qualify then they are fantastic, actually encourage some tactical driving. The last thing we want is Vanilla racing, could not think of anything worse than 10 races with 80% the same distance/start type.

Can pick him up for 25k in the claimer at GP Friday Night. On current form, not a bad get.
  • TheDarkHorseTheDarkHorse    129 posts
Wrongly Accused would be a good get for a bush trainer, if it doesn't win Friday, it'll drop back to a C7 M1, therefore qualifying for all the Country Cups in the bush which run for 10k a pop. Hard to improve off Tony though but for 15k thought it wouldn't be a horrible buy.

Unfortunately you can't, they have to go to a new stable. Not to sure how long for. Need to run some more of the 5000/15000 claimers.
