I'd have thought $6 was keeping it safe. Petrol Power is no slouch, although it hasnt won in a while.

I dont think we will be seeing under $10 Sujet. Surely the race experience has to come through in that race. A few decent horses who have had a good handful of starts.

If Sujet beats this lot then its clearly a decent horse.

    LOL

Petrol Power had been aimed at a start in The Guineas. The only doubt is if this may have flattened him or hopefully he can return with some zip over the shorter course. He didn't see out the 1400M in my opinion but the experiment had some merit. I think he will be too strong for this field and provided that he is not taken back through the field by something trying to find the front from out wide, he will win. His longterm goals will be short course sprints and as a 4yo & 5yo he will be a force to contend with over this distance.

If Sujet can get close that will be a very good performance. But trials are very different to Racing.

    LOL

and thats why im a foolish punter and not a bookie!
Although i may be proven right if it gets beat. So much value for other runners due to the price of Sujet. And as we have seen lately, the Miller plunges are coming off less and less. I remember when he first came here, when he plunged it won. Now its more unlikely than likely.

    Good luck all today!

Ihtsahym, Buffering and Playing God in the big three for me.

Outside of that I have Maximus Mak, Pin Rouge, Super 88, Mystic Prince, Baleen in Me and King of the palace, although i have a feeling about General Albert winning the last at massive odds.

    See you out there!

Sujet $4 into $2.80 as soon as markets were posted.  :-B

    someone is taking the p*ss!
Centrebet allegedly took a $3k bet @ 4.00 so if it's legit that would explain the betting move. Does have Douglas Whyte to guide it too

I'm not having a go at all here, just making an observation.

Centrebet owned by one of "the worlds biggest bookmakers" take a 3 grand bet on a $4.00, 3/1 chance and turn it into $2.80, 7/4 in the old. The bet is $9,000/3,000. not a big bet you would think for such a "huge" bookmaking firm.

I enjoy reading articles about old time bookies in the halcyon years of bookmaking, and the comparisons with what bookmakers would bet punters in those years compared to today, makes fascinating reading. For me, anyway.

I was reading some articles about the biggest bookie in Sydney from 1941 until 1956 called Ken Ranger. Bill Waterhouse speaks of him with real awe in his book.

Ranger died a relatively young man having suffered from heart problems that today would have been fixed with a bypass or two. In 1952 he held 2.5 million pounds for the year, when you could buy a decent house in Sydney for 3,000 pounds. That's the equivalent of around 820 houses. Assuming the house is worth around 800 grand today, and I'm probably being conservative, that would make his hold in today's terms, 656 million dollars.

On Metropolitan day in 1952, he laid two individual bets against the 2/1 favourite in the shorts as it is still called today, of 8,000/4000 That meant that two punters had the equivalent of the cost of a house to win two houses. Try doing that today.

These big Corps talk about the million dollar bets they take and how much they lay against horses. What is interesting Realkramer as that you even questioned the legitimacy of the $3,000 bet.
    :))
I actually don't need to go back 60 years, to make my point. 30 years ago, you could walk up to virtually every rails bookie in Melbourne, and they would bet you at 3/1 10,000/3,300 without blinking, and if they didn't like the horse, they would ask you if you wanted it again.

I know and accept that times have changed, and what was is no more and just how hard it is to get on today for any decent money, except in Melbourne and Sydney at carnival times.

Don't get me wrong, 3 grand will buy you and the missus/girlfriend/boyfriend a reasonable holiday, and 9 grand an even better one.

But in the scheme of things compared to not really that long ago, on the biggest day of racing in WA, the fact that Centrebet would even bother to publicise a $3,000 bet on a 3/1 chance, shows you to what level betting in this country has generally deteriorated compared to days gone by.

Baleen in Me was very minor, the one in red got crunched right on the Line, Ejays Girl never got involved

That was a brave win by Buffering. Did so much work, pressured inside and outside, was a sitting shot but got his head down when it counted.
