    Selling an asset that gives you an income stream means that sooner or later, what you sold it for becomes 'unders' if the new operators do things right.

    This is very short sighted of Barnett & Buswell,

    Seems a fire sale is on at the moment on anything that isn't locked down!

    MAX light rail delayed (albeit goneski).

    Good to see the other three big infrastructure projects on schedule if not ahead - the tunnel for the train station is opening today (and it is 6 months haead of schedule)

    The federal government has been milking WA dry during these tough times so there is very little choice. In saying this, if it were a Labour Government in WA, the beans would be spilt! However, State Liberal Party has to cover the Federal Party!

    Ahead of schedule thanks to clauses which pays companies bonuses for getting the job finished ahead of schedule. same with main roads contracts.

    No doubt the government will legislate such that they don't lose their income stream.

    The debate is then will the industry be worse of or better off. If the tab is run the same then obvioulsy worse off as the new owners need a return. Potentially and very likley it will be run better then who knows the industry might be better off.

    Just a simple question.....what happens when a government (any government) end up selling everything they are meant to own and run?  Will we need a government anymore if they aren't actually running (or owning) anything that they were initially elected to do!

    Don't need a government at all if they sell it all.

    Talk about a 14km underground railway connecting airport. I rather keep it above ground, and down the centre of Horrie Miller, above ground down the centre of Tonkin Highway, and above ground down the centre of Great Eastern Highway, then above ground down the middle of the causeway, and from the tear-drop roundable in East Perth under ground long St George Tce and eventually connects to the Perth Underground. You get passengers to go to Perth Underground but a passage way.

    The underground tunnel to the airport is just a cover for the axing of the MAX light rail (neither will occur in the near future).  Above ground from Bayswater, down Tonkin, down Brearley, undercover for airport field, and up for Forrestfield - simple really!

    The airport line (as unimportant as it is*) doesn't need to be undercover for more than the width of the airport field!

    if we cant afford it now...i doubt we ever will be able to afford it...what we need is a government that is prepared to invest in infrastructure for the future...that is what govt is meant to do..Always amazes me that we sold off essential services - water, gas, electricity, some bus services - but kept lotterywest, TAB. which to me are the ones that should have gone ages ago!!!!!

    Whispers are that auditors are currently at RWWA, with preparations being made for the privatization of the WA TAB.

    Each codes CEO attending a meeting at RWWA tomorrow.

    I thought auditors got brought in if an organisation was subject to a massive fraud or if it was going broke. Don't investment bankers line up outside the door if a business is being prepared to be sold? Need to check whether it's plain brown / black suited professionals walking into the office or whether they're wearing pin stripes.
