Understandable Dale - Takeover Target a had a hole in a foot the size of a cricket ball. Perhaps a new thread - who was the luckiest man ever born - Joe Janiak or Ringo Starr?

Joe had some rotten luck prior to that though. He was due for some good fortune.

Agree Kramer - he was living in a caravan on Queanbeyan racecourse just outside Canberra.
Worked in a bakery overnight and drove a cab during the day and worked a few when he had the time.
His missus got jack of it and he got home one day to find the Goodbye John letter on the fold-down table.
Bet she's filthy with herself these days!

True but anyone can break one down too. That was where Janiak did the job. He kept him sound enough for long enough to amass a fortune in stakes. Could anyone have done a better job?

In WA racing I think there would have been a few who were battling, had a run with a very smart horse and then drifted back into the ranks.  Two come to mind

Ever Ready - Colleen Henderson, very smart horse one of very few she trained, was smart, then purchased I think by Yosse Goldberg, she lost the horse & that was the end of both from the Headlines IIRC.

Arkenstone - Gordon Spowart, though still a very succesful Country trainer, Arkenstone had Spowty's name up in lights there for awhile.
