SKY GIVE ON COURSE ODDS THE TIJUANA BRASS

I note that on Sky today, they have Glenn Munsie doing a voice over before each race telling punters what has been backed on the TAB fixed odds market.
Obviously, Sky who are owned by the TAB have decided that the less they quote on-course bookies odds and the more they quote their own fixed odds, the more business they will do.Why, I don't know. I would have thought that saying "the big money has arrived on course" would stimulate betting more than displaying their own odds.

But I could be wrong.

Because it worked a treat on the second at Bendigo today. The official flucs were 8 into 4.40 but Glennie told the punters that it was 12.00 into 4.00. The horse paid $3.70 on the tote. The mugs in the Tabs will get rich taking poison like that. BUT, I can hear them now. "At least it's a winner."

So not only will they give punters the wrong flucs, but by doing so encourage them to accept the poison that they will cop. Shouldn't feel sorry for them, but in some ways I do, because I hate it when Huge monopolies take advantage of the little bloke.

I'm not surprised that Munsie is part of this wank. After all, he did work for the Waterhouses. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

And yes Carey, I did turn off the mute button. I was wondering why they were spending so much time displaying the fixed odds.

    How low can they go.

Munsie a minute before Race 5 Doomben. "Number 5 Sequalex is the best backed here and is the market mover."

Actual facts, Sequalex opened at $5.00 on track and didn't move. Best backed runner Number 8 Lucky Black $6.00 into $4.80. Result is unimportant although LB finished a nose second and Sequalex third.

I suppose that Munsie would say that irrespective of what has happened in the ring, Sequalex was the best backed with us, and unless you had access to their records, you wouldn't know.

My thoughts are that if they haven't laid a horse for any real money and say a horse like Lucky black has been backed right in with them like it was on-course, the instructions will be to pick one out at shortish odds, and tip it as a well backed runner to the mugs in the Tab's who won't know any better.

Any way you look at it, they have got a bit in their favour, haven't they.

    Just one more.
Upcoming race at Warwick Farm Race 6 Munsie tells punters that fave has been 3 into 2.60. It's been 3 into 2.70 in the ring, so I'd cop that  from him.

He then says, "best backed runner against it is number 10, My Lady luck." The fact is that it's been 10 into 9.00 back to 9.50. The actual best backed against the favourite was number 8, Bubbles and Boats 7 into 5.50 back to 6.

Bubbles, the one backed in the ring which the Sky presenter would have told punters about only yesterday, runs second, my lady luck nowhere.

As I said, they have obviously laid Bubbles and Boats and haven't got a cracker out of My Lady luck.

Be that as it may, the absolute, in my opinion, deliberate misleading of the punting public is just another reflection of the Tab.

And a very poor one at that.

Don`t think any serious punters could care less.

The Betfair and Citibet markets are the true indicators of market movers.

On course bookies follow those prices and adjust their markets accordingly, without even taking bets.

Agree completely with your post FM.

However my first post expressed concern for "the little bloke" and my second, for the "mugs in the Tab's who wouldn't know any better".

I can't think of, nor do I know of, any serious or pro punter, that sets foot in a TAB unless it's to make a withdrawal or deposit.

With less than a handful of bookies on most non city tracks surely $50 causes a sensation in the ring

This issue has turned a full circle. I can remember in the 90s the on course bookies strongly campaigned against radio and vision coverage conveying on course prices. The argument at the time was that it was another reason for punters not to go to the course. Now with Betfair, corporate bookmakers and even on course bookmakers displaying odds on the internet the need to be on course has all but disappeared.

I am not sure that this situation is in the best interests of the racing industry long term but this is the reality of modern day punting.

    Absolutely correct Aquanita.

If anyone thinks that the in the tab punters or the mugs at home watching Sky aren't being told porkies, I just turned the sound up before race 4 at Flemington. One of the two gooses in the Sky studio said that he'd just received a message from Tabcorp that someone had $5000 on Chivalry at $2.30. Now this is about 90 seconds before they are about to jump.

Let's see, $2.90 on track and you can swim in $3.00 on the Fair.

I don't know anyone who would take $2.30 off the tab fixed odds with another 60 cents available on track and 70 on Betfair.

So either they have absolutely no conscience in the pursuit of the punters money, or the bloke who had the bet is a spendthrift with a good sense of humour

@bookielover Tom Waterhouse did exactly the same when he was on 7two's coverage and I'm sure he trained his 2IC, Jonny Aitken well. The moral of the story is watch the betting flucs(if you must) but when a bookie starts talking don't expect to hear the truth. I have backed enough 'market movers' this year to last me a lifetime...and it would be a lifetime of eating soup for dinner. There are no shortcuts. Do the form, back your own opinion and if you must go to the TAB, buy a smartphone-you can watch the flucs yourself.

    No argument here, TRK.

I know that what you and Aquanita say is 100% correct. With respect, that's not the point that I'm making.

Understanding the principle of Caveat Emptor, buyer beware, of course it is up to the punters to watch everything for themselves and not be misled.

What the TAB through Sky Channel are doing is totally misleading the punters that either are too stupid to look after their own interests or don't know how.

The bloke in the studio proclaimed, "there's no money for Gregers, it's a drifter." It was 4.60 into 4.00 in the ring. It's not that they are a joke, they are being deceptive and misleading and need to be exposed.

Some poor TAB Fixed odds punter had 10k on Silver Trace at $2.60 according to the in-studio bloke!

Ran down the track! Oops - the TAB is =))
