It's a sad reflection on racing nowadays, when you need a band to attract people to the track.

Those that come for the band and we have them here at various race meetings in Melbourne, don't bet, but usually spend the day getting pissed. So the clubs make plenty out of selling the young people drinks, without any care for the fact that they are assisting in the irresponsible service of alcohol that takes place.

They may argue that drunks are ejected from the track, but that only happens AFTER the young person is already blotto.

So even though I won't be there, I am pleased that the club has seen fit to let the racing and the horses speak for themselves.

It just might cut down on the numbers of young people that turn up with the specific aim of getting drunk out of their brains so that they can "enjoy" the band.

Perth Racing is not doing themselves any favours, it's opening day in 2 weeks and there hasn't been any advertising anywhere whatsoever.... Very sad. Changes are needed

ABBA are being reformed for the Super Saturday day. They will be singing their hit single 'Money Money Money'. I don't know what it means but it's a rich man's world................

opening night of the MVRC last Friday - town was a buzz - GF week etc etc - hugely promoted and they got around 9k to the track.
Will be interesting to see what they get this Friday :-?

Sydney spent a Motza on the "Championships" last year and managed only around 20k for both days.

Gone are the days of large attendances at every Sat meeting.

PR get reasonable crowds for Railway and Perth Cup days. IMO they just need to beef up attendances for a few of the other theme days - Italian, Irish, Ladies day etc and be content with 5 or 6 big days per year

they got rid of their marketing manager, so this new plan seems to be coming along well

not sure if a band was needed. I don't like getting cluster f**ked at the tote machine by some emo indy chicks who have no idea of how to place a bet and therefore I miss a race. Unfortunately this is what is attracted by the bands. You want that crowd involved buy a ticket to the Big Day Out..... It will only be racing people in attendance who are interested in racing. If 7k rock up that's fine with me. It is a group 1 raceday not a music festival.

They are currently promoting Irish Day this Saturday.

Meanwhile Sydney are already promoting the Autumn Carnival... This genuinelly upsets me more than it should, I think I do more promoting amongst my family, friends and colleagues about what is happening at Ascot and Belmont

They've had their rings hanging out promoting PFF at ascot recently. I've seen heaps more about that than actual racing. Looks like it went down well but. I myself like watching a band after the races wouldn't bother me if it was a young rapper like Illy or barnzy and farnzy or a covers band. If no band this year I'll probably head straight to the crown and spend my $ on drinks there instead of PR getting the money.

I've got a bass, amp and pedals at home. We could start a PTT band. I'll even re-learn how to play it for some export and some tab vouchers!

I've watched the last few bands play and they're always been quite popular and suited to finishing off the day well!  Illy was quite good last year! (Given we're still six weeks from SS, I'm sure PR have an announcement of a band for SS)

Some suggestions for PR as they haven't chosen a band so far:

San Cisco (Perth band done good) (Pop)

Shihad (are back and are touring, one of the best live bands going around) (Rock)
**Some cool greyhound and horse slow motion footage in this vid**

    Flume (electronica/DJ)

Every time I see San Sisco live I creep out scarlett the drummer. She's a very attractive girl

I don't like the idea of a band as something to drae people in i.e. Flume but I do like the idea of a band to keep people on course spending money and being entertained after the races i.e. a cheap as chips cover band. Can just add to the day help people form a lasting memory, get them back!

Someone mentioned that Perth Racing may have appointed a Marketing Manager in recent days. But at this late notice I don't know if that person would be in a position to be able to secure headline acts for Super Saturday. There is more chance that this year Super Saturday will be a racing day only with more emphasis on the racing and less on the party.

They can prove me wrong of course, it matters little in the big picture, as what is to be announced next week will remove the oxygen from the room anyway.
