Even the great Damien Wyer, purchaser of Magnifisiso and other splendid thoroughbreds, even if they end up racing at Laverton, will defer to a vet before purchase. Bit like selling acar without looking under the bonnet, or getting the mechanic to, i mean you would do it wouldnt you? Not sure even Damien ccould get away without using a vet, just yet.
I know what your getting at Spudley, its all just a bit galling...........
ps better hope that Sam Trimboli isnt a church goer, he might not be too happy with certain comments
Is there any difference between a vet or a bloodstock agent not getting a positive outcome?
If i was relying on either i'd go with the vet.

If i were purchasing i would do my own homework and then get the vet to look. If it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling to engage a bloodstock agent to get a positive outcome good for you.
Spudley has presented a different opinion and you assasinated him. What for........to defend Damien. If Damien wants a safe haven he comes here, he is amongst friends.
I don`t know Damien.
This is assassinating people and it is obvious Spudley has never used a bloodstock agent but he can bag everyone of them.
Interesting that Chris Waller has a bloodstock expert on staff but hey. Spud and Into It know better.

You did pull Spudleys opinion to pieces, almost paragraph by paragraph.
Seems to me Spudley is defending Damien, the good stock agent amongst the bad. Personally my radar goes up amongst any salesmen. It is interesting to note that Damien is not a member of the bloodstock agents. I would assume that it may give a client some forum of redress if required.
From your responses its clear you don`t like an alternative view and you aren`t interested in a discussion based on the content of particular posts.
I have talked about this before but I don't purchase then find buyers. I don't syndicate even by stealth. Occasionally I'm asked by a Trainer if I could, but I actually think it adds costs to potential clients that they should be responsible for themselves and those costs wouldn't be incurred.
So for a once only fee, for which the majority are not even charged, my services can be retained for a sale at a cost of $500. The first $500 of my agent's fee is credited if you pay your purchases within the Magic Millions or Inglis trading terms, they pay me 1% as an agent and I am happy with that. If I have to travel Interstate, then there may be some additional costs. Vet charges for inspections, x-ray reports etc are at cost. I have a very good record of payment with Magic Millions and I intend to keep it that way.
As far as acting outside of anyone's guidelines, I have no affiliation with any Vendor or Stallion. The various courtesies extended to me by Vendor's is appreciated but it in no way affects my purchasing patterns. My clients mean more to me.
My wife part owns a legal firm. I have no intention of meeting any of her colleagues in any capacity other than drinks at a function.
If this is too hard to believe, then find someone else to find you a horse. It's that simple.
Fastmoney asks about studies or statistics that back up my argument, well from my memory not sure of what year but in the United States a number of yearlings were kept from a horse sale and the same number had the full yearling preparation and the results showed that there was more stakeswinners and winners in the group kept from the sale.
But we have the perfect example of it here in WA how many yearlings does Bob Peters sell ?.
NONE and look at all the success he has had , how many does he buy maybe a couple mainly fillies from the best families , how many 2yr olds does he race not many that I can think of. Maybe someone who is close to him should try and find out what programs he puts his young horses through before they race, I applied for his farm manager's position after he sacked Denis but he wanted someone more linked to the showjumping world as his grand-daughters were heading in that direction , but heard the guy he employed did not last long so I am not sure who runs his farm now.
Damien you mentioned that in regards to the auctioning process for Magnifisio the last genuine bid was $60,000 and then the auctioneer put in a false bid to up the price before you bid $80,000 to get her, well that proves the sale process is corrupt as false bidding is illegal but this sale company do it every year and I would not have done what you did, if she had been passed in after the false bid from the auctioneer you may have got her cheaper by dealing with the vendor in turn saving your client maybe $10,000 or more.
Damien good to see your explaining some of your charges maybe more of your fellow agents should do the same then we could make a comparison and then anybody wanting to use a agent can make informed choice.
And just one last question to all of you prospective yearling buyers how many of you pick up and look at the front hooves of the horse you intend on buying.
If the vendor buys their yearling back they pay the commission & they have their yearling eligible for the race series, happens quite alot
Hardly surprising That CW would use a bloodstock agent, with an operation like his.
Seems to me Damien youve done yourself a disservice, not paying the agents fee and giving yourself access to WAROA members. How can that be a donation?
Fastmoney," i dont like an alternative view"....interesting........i'm having that with you ar'nt I. I'd already stated elsewhere that MM wouldnt be liking Bob Peters for the success he was having with his homebreds. Vendor bids, arnt they supposed to be outlawed? Mr Magoo how can you be sure that a vendor bid isnt simply to run a price up? Sure get a horse qualified for the series but when does it stop! Unfortunately its opened it up to corruption. We think differently.........
Heres a discussion for you, what is the extent of your involvement in horses?
How about just putting up what you like and take all the other 5hit somewhere else..

who on what??? Was that directed at me?? @Into It Thought you'd be out tending to all those horses of yours at this time of day!!!
If you going to sling a bit of 5hit at least direct it a bit more clearly so that a proper 5hit slanging match can be had

i'd much rather have a throw at the board with a purchase of a tried horse from the eastern states...with a LOT of homework done. just be patient and one will pop up..and I don't mean from darley....I am still fuming...talk about snake oil salesmen.

Yearling sales are not a death sentence for horses, in fact for most it is the start of a pampered life until they are not going to make racehorses.

Don`t let facts get in the way of a breeding discussion.
Spudley and his sidekick (Into It) have a different view, backed by an obscure US study and the success of 1 owner/breeder.
And Waller having a bloodstock employee is smart but anyone else using the services of a bloodstock agent is chasing a warm fuzzy feeling.
Some sharp operators in this thread.

if they all made it we'd need 20 divisions of the initial plate.
take off the rose coloured glasses, boys...its a bloody raffle.....

EDIT...the percentage isn't really important...you should only be buying with money that isn't needed to put food on the table...so if the last one wasnt a runner, hopefully the next one will be..
pampered horses get the pampered psyche and act accordingly...fact.

I reckon old mr. lucas will get a few out of king wu...I backed it at pinny on the 14/12 when he ran 2nd and I see they nibbled it on sat with O'Donnell on top.
we all have our thoughts on yearling sales, all views are respected. we are all in this game together, some have different views to others.
thanks for your candid contribution, magoo.
