    Well that's a good point. But at least us battlers may be able to score a listed race ;) I think it says more about what the rest of us are breeding and buying. Our mares may not be good enough

    Bob Peters makes NO profits from racing surely its a hobby for him a bloody expensive one stake moneys won would not cover his operation on a yearly basis

    Without him more battlers would be winning races with inferior stock is all

    He loves the trophies an lime light but no way he has made any money from racing over the duration on the scale he operates

    How do you know? Would own the properties, probably a shareholder in many top stallions (so pays nothing for serves), and dictates rates for contractors (trainers). If anyone is gonna go close to profiting ...

    Gotta love the sweeping assertions PP - only one person would have a clue whether he makes or loses money - and that's Bob and that's his business and he ain't about to publish his profit/loss statements on here. Without knowing the exact details of his operation, you are just flying kites.

    I know how much it costs to race horses an he has how many that pay thete way out of how many add training costs transport etc etc on his scale as a one out owner over the duration I doubt he's in front it's opinion not fact

    He's had a massive year no doubt but yes had quite a few lean ones to over the years by his own admission he said so at breakfast with the stars

    Any of us who have ever received any type of bill associated with hay burners know it's one hell of an expensive hobby

    Without him racing would be more boring than if it is in WA he could just send all his good ones east no greater supporter than Bob hats of to him he's an icon of the sport here no question

    Bobs business is Bob's business...end of story.
    without him Perth racing would be knackered...I, and many, do not begrudge him his success.
    the yearling sales were a fizzer..how many of Bob's horses are home bred..almost none. he knows our stallions would be bloody hopeless to his harem of well bred mares. would finish up with a stable of mongrals.

    Regards the success or not of Bob Peters racing and breeding enterprise businessmen use horse breeding as a tax write off for their main business which in Bob's case is his BMW dealership.

    Ok Bob makes a squillion out of racing in WA there is that what you all want to here Name me one one out owner with his size operation who does ?

    If he does make profits he deserves them Im just gojng off what he himself said at a breakfast I was at t last year about a lot of very lean years in racing for him to

    Horse studs owned by big business always run at a loss they then pay less tax from their main business.

    ATO don't just allow businesses to run at a loss...not saying this doesn't happen but it ain't that simple.

    I think you can only claim losses if its seen as a commercial operation. For example a breeder must offer the horses for sale and if there is a loss it is claimable? That is my very simplistic opinion of it. Im not an accountant.

    Bobs tried horse sale wouldnt qualify his operation as commercial, surely. Doubt he'd be getting benefited in that way

    EXACTLY my point he's not in it to make money most likely has not over the years he's a rich guy who loves the sport an can afford to chuck large amounts at his passion an love for racing it's his buzz

    Regardless WA Racing owes him a big vote of thanks he's a legend for supporting racing

    As for ATO Claims of racing ha good luck with that against your business intrests

    Several years ago, as I understand the ruling, the ATO isolated your business interests so you could not offset your profits from one, and lever them against your losses in another. This had a huge impact on the breeding Industry and it's growth.

    Now I think I am correct, but if there is someone with an accountancy background who could verify this, but there is in fact a specialty firm that operates in Victoria, and even does speaking events for owners thinking otherwise.

    I was referring to breeders that sell at the yearling sales etc not bobs operation.
