By the way, as far as the Collingwood players who tested positive for the illegal drug are concerned, if their B sample comes back positive, throw the book at them.

And it's high time that the AFL got rid of this ridiculous three strikes policy. It has brought them nothing but unnecessary anguish and pain.

How much material needs to be collected before it gets to the point that there is a lack of evidence because there is no evidence to find?

Fastmoney no matter what amount of whitewash is applied to the Essendon Football Clubs pig sty the smell will remain.
James Hird can say he is sorry until the cows come home but he will never be absolved of his involvement in the systematic injection regime that he supported fully.

The players were never guilty of this but were guilty of not questioning what Dank was injecting them with.

Stephen Dank will have records of all this somewhere or how else would he know what amounts of what substance to give to each player to get the improvement that he and Hird wanted to achieve.

I hope Hal Hunter the young rookie who is taking the club to court can somehow get Dank to on the stand and make him confess to what was given to the kid ( But more likely the club will pay him off to shut him up )

    I didn't.
    The verdict so far.

    $2m fine for the club
1 Year suspension for the coach
2 Years of draft picks removed.
Players lost to the club (Ryder et al)
One CEO and numerous other club officials sacked (careers destroyed).
    One Sports scientist career destroyed.
No action taken against 34 players.

    So far. (appeal pending)

    Fair summary ?

And a simple reflection point for you - why on earth would Dank let all this happen, including destroying his own career if he could simply appear before the tribunal and swear that the players were not injected with any banned substance ?

But anyway.............as per I stated yesterday - the players have got off (for the moment), and can take the field this weekend - fair bump, play on.

    Excellent summary, Tivers.

But in Fast money, you are dealing with someone for whom everything is a media conspiracy.

Mathew Lloyd, who has been a huge supporter of the players and the club throughout this sorry saga, joined with Caroline Wilson, Craig Hutchinson, and Garry Lyon, in expressing his disgust last night on Footy Classified, that to this day, the players have no idea what they were injected with.

I put this in my post, and FM's comment, "uninformed ignorant media still forming your opinion".

So now, according to FM, an unabashed supporter of the Essendon Football Club in Mathew Lloyd, is now part of that "uninformed, ignorant, media".

Jobe Watson, his voice choked with emotion, expressed his and the players huge concern that to this day, they have no idea what drugs were injected into their systems. That was in my post as well. According to FM, Jobe Watson, and the players, the actual victims of this injecting regime, are now also part of that "uninformed ignorant media".

FM, is like other conspiracy theorists that I know, who believe that the CIA were responsible for 9/11 and that the ISIS terrorists are really very nice people, and if only we sat down and talked to them, all the worlds problems would be solved.

Ben Mcdevitt has reserved the right of ASADA to appeal.

I hope they and WADA will do so, if only to answer the question that I posed in one of the above posts. which I will post again.

The tribunal accept the evidence of an Essendon player, that Dank told him that he was injecting Thymosin into the players veins.

The tribunal say that they do not believe that the Thymosin that was injected was the legal variant Thymosin Alpha.

The tribunal accepted evidence that Shane Charter imported illegal Thymosin Beta-4.

The tribunal accepted evidence that Charter passed this Thymosin Beta-4 onto compound Pharmacist Nima Alavi.

The Tribunal accepted evidence that Alavi, processed the illegal Thymosin Beta-4, and then passed it onto Stephen Dank.

The tribunal, even though, they state that the Thymosin that they accept was injected into the Essendon player was NOT the legal Thymosin, came to the conclusion that they were not "comfortably satisfied", that the Thymosin was the illegal Thymosin Beta-4, because they said that they couldn't be certain that Dank had brought that illegal Thymosin with him to Essendon.

So,the question that needs to be asked is, if it wasn't the legal Thymosin, and it wasn't the illegal Thymosin, what Thymosin was it?

And if some wish to ignore the findings of the Tribunal and say, well, it wasn't Thymosin at all, then why have the Tribunal accepted the evidence of the Essendon player, and why would Dank tell the Essendon player, I'm injecting you with Thymosin, when he wasn't?

Now, unlike Fast money, I don't live in conspiracy fairyland.

I just want to know how the Tribunal could possibly ignore the above evidence, evidence which they accepted.

Did they do it in order to achieve the outcome that we had yesterday? I'll leave it up to others to decide.

    :O :-S :-\"

Not a bad summary, but not completely fair i would suggest...Maybe you could add + Goddard, Cooney, Chapman et at if you want to include Ryder as a loss.

Let's be clear, Ryder left more money.

I don't think anyone (well maybe a couple on here) genuinely wanted the players done. A good outcome for the players and industry in the end, as it clearly didn't enhance performance, probably hindered it (injuries).

But you've got blinkers on if you don't think they players got away with it. Dank's admission of TB4, then recant and evasion, Charter's evasion, the deliberate mis-labelling protocols ....far too much smoke I'm afraid.

ASADA's case terribly structured now the details are known, as if they were ever going to be 'comfortably satisfied' for all 34. They were 100/1

Still, Essendon got their whack from the AFL for being a shithouse organisation - so fair play, move on.

The part that gets me is how the Kool-Aid drinkers still want Hird as coach. Matrix organisation structure my arse, Dank was sending him invoices FFS. At least he pissed away a cool mill in the courts, when he really didn't need to ..

He's going to be immovable as coach, he now has the mandate, results irrelevant. You'd hope he coaches alright .. lolz if he doesn't.

    Yep, whatever...

Tuesday morning on the SEN breakfast program in Melbourne, where Tim Watson has a regular 8 AM gig, Andrew Gaze one of the presenters asked Tim the following question.

"Have you ever met with Stephen Dank, and what did he tell you"? Watson answered that he had met with Dank three times and on the third occasion Dank assured him that there was nothing illegal or harmful in the drugs that were injected into the players.

Following that answer, there was about 10 seconds of complete silence from Gaze and his co-presenter, another genius, Andrew Meagher, after which they changed topic.

Surely the follow up question should have been, did you then ask Dank why he won't provide the football club with a list of the peptides that he injected into the players, so the club can investigate whether or not Dank was telling you the truth.

In an article written by Michael Warner, in today's Herald Sun, he reports that there are up to 6 former Essendon players who are exploring damages claims against Essendon and the AFL.

However, more importantly as far as ALL the players are concerned, Warner further reports that the AFL Players Association have offered the 34 players "ongoing medical attention".

A letter from the AFLPA states"All of your players should have received a letter from the club, inviting them to participate in the medical monitoring program that has been developed and implemented by a steering committee consisting of representatives of the P.A, AFL, and EFC. Participation in the program is voluntary, HOWEVER, I WOULD ASK YOU TO ENCOURAGE YOUR PLAYERS TO PARTICIPATE".

Tim Watson, was the face and "representative" of the parents, and following meetings between him and the other parents, he assured those parents that their children were safe and that they should have no concerns about the injecting regime. The media covered those meetings, and one or two parents prepared to speak to the TV reporters said that they felt more "comfortable" having met with Tim and the club.

This offer by the AFLPA for ongoing monitoring of the health of the players, displays the sort of unconscionable morally bankrupt monster that Stephen Dank is, and how gullible the Essendon Football Club, the players, Tim Watson, and the other parents have been to think, and come out and publicly state in the words of Paul Little, "we don't believe there was anything illegal or harmful in what the players received."

The truth that idiots like Sam Newman on the Footy Show on Thursday night and others in the media and the general public cannot accept, is that as I type this, NO ONE knows definitively what the players were injected with, legal drugs, or not.

And the only reason that the Tribunal could not find the Essendon Players guilty of receiving THYMOSIN BETA-4 is that Dank, Charter and Alavi would not do the right thing by the Club, players and their parents, and reveal to the tribunal exactly what the players were injected with.

Whether they admit it to themselves or others, there is no doubt that the players and their parents will for many years to come, live with the real possibility that their future health and welfare has been severely compromised by the disgraceful events that took place at Essendon.

I hope that at the very least, the 6 former players of the club threatening legal action, get their day in Court, and the rookie Essendon player delisted in 2013, is successful in his Court action.

As players that were part of the injecting regime are delisted in the future, you may find them suddenly losing all their "love and unity" for their once were teammates, and the Essendon Football Club and the AFL, should prepare themselves for the huge repercussions caused by their total lack of duty of care to the players.

Hopefully, Court actions will finally force Dank to produce the documentation that the players need in order to find out what they were given, and to allow them to take any action that may be necessary to protect their health.

Whatever the future holds for the players, let us hope that Stephen Dank is prevented from ever practicing his form of witchcraft on any human being at any time in the future.

Just one question.....if no-one knew what substances were being injected, and the players signed off that everything  was okay prior to beginning the "supplements" program, why did leading player David Zaharakis, and 4 other players that I am aware of, decide NOT to participate in the program? They resisted the undoubted pressure to partake - but that question seems to have disappeared off the radar. Did those 5 young men, one of whom I know came home from the club, discussed the program with his parents and said "No, this is not right, I am not participating", know something that the other 34 didn't??? And were invoices sent to James Hird from Dank? And what on earth is a non playing person doing participating? I can never look at Hird in the same light as before when I thought he walked on water as a player and the great casualty in all this is the actual truth.

JayJay those players are scared of needles and that is the reason.

Bookielover do you ever drink coke or diet coke ? Ever breathed in cigarette smoke or concrete dust ?
  • bookieloverbookielover    2,709 posts
    Shovhog,

I have definitely drunk Coke and Diet Coke in the past, but have been solely a water drinker for the last 4 years. One of my sons convinced me that those artificial sweeteners probably aren't too good for us.

My old man gave the smokes away in 1957 and wouldn't allow smoking in the house, and as a virtual non-drinker, I didn't frequent clubs and pubs like others so the amount of ciggy smoke that I have inhaled over the years is minimal. Concrete dust? can't remember having inhaled it.

The fact is, as Sean White and Jim Steins who both played for Melbourne proved, you can, in the case of White, be a non-smoker, yet still get lung cancer, and in the case of Steins, also be a non-smoker and still get tumors.

No one can be a smart arse about this, and to this day, no one can tell us why people who lead clean lives, no smoking, no drinking, no drugs, and watching what they eat, get cancer and die young, and others who smoke, drink, and abuse their bodies and eat to excess, can live into their 80's.

The latter doesn't happen very often, but it can happen.

Whether you have drunk coke or inhaled ciggy smoke and concrete dust, is irrelevant to the fact that 34 human beings, have got no idea what substances were injected into their veins.

They may be fine. They may not.

At least with Coke, we know that if you drink full strength Coke, it will eventually rot your teeth and the calories in it, will ensure you put on weight. Diet coke has got these phenyl something or others in it and there are some reports that it could cause all sorts of bad stuff, and the Sodium in both Cokes is not good for your blood vessels. Cigarette smoking can kill you, and passive smoking, inhaling cigarette smoke can also kill you. Inhaling concrete dust like asbestos dust isn't recommended either, cancer is often an unwanted result of that inhalation.

The point, Shovhog, is, that if we choose to drink Coke, regular or diet, or be in an environment where cigarette smoke will be present, or concrete dust, or dare I say it, drugs, then we have to be prepared to suffer the consequences.

The Essendon players, some might say foolishly, signed consent forms allowing them to be injected with what they probably thought were legal vitamins or substances that would give them an edge over their competitors. They were ill-advised and stupid to put their trust in an egomaniac like James Hird when agreeing to go along with the injecting regime.

Their stupidity should not have to condemn them to years of fear because a low form of bacteria in Stephen Dank, won't tell them what he injected into their bodies.

The difference, Shovhog, is that we know what we are drinking in Coke, and know what we are inhaling in cigarette smoke or concrete dust, and can make an informed decision to avoid the consequences.Because the Essendon players had no idea what they were about to be given, because they placed their trust in Jimmy, they were never really in a position where they could make an informed choice.

I am sure that when a player did query the injecting regime, they would have been met with exactly what Hird said at his press conference on Tuesday. "Don't worry mate, I would never allow anything bad to be injected into your system".

The bottom line is this. Unlike some on here, I have great compassion for the players who put their trust in their Coach and Football Club. They were foolish for doing it, but they did. Their Coach and Football Club have deceived them, and they may suffer severe consequences in the future as a result of that deception. Inhaling asbestos dust can take years before it manifests itself in Mesothelioma

The 6 ex-players who are considering legal action, and the ex player who is already taking Court action, obviously agree with me on this.

You appear to be saying, so what! It's O.K. to be injected hundreds of times, while having absolutely no idea what has been injected into your body, because "we' have all drunk Coke and Diet Coke or breathed in cigarette smoke or concrete dust. That's great logic.

It never ceases to amaze me, Shovhog, how people like you are comfortable with other peoples misery, when they themselves are not a victim.

Congratulations. You join Fast Money, another person on this thread who has shown absolutely no compassion for the future health and well-being of the 34 players.

    Well done.
