Couldn't help but notice....Cardigan Boko broke tonight and was unplaced and , wait for it.....after winning 14 of its last 19 starts including it's last 3, it gets a "last chance to race competitively" moniker from the stewards. The Beau Brummel and Char Ming who finished 62m 2nd last and 109m last respectively, escape any such sanction.
Can't let Bettors Fire's performance in the August Cup go unnoticed. Won untouched from last in a brilliant performance on a smart Kyle Harper drive. I wonder if he impressed Mr Hall snr whose quote that "he is not rapt in Bettors Fire" when spruiking the chances of Northview Punter (2nd last!!!) last week might not be seen as somewhat intemperate.

Bettors Fire was very very good. You'd love to float that one home.

Nice effort from Philadelphia Man as well at Melton.

In regards to Cardigan Boko perhaps the notation should have been LCRT or last chance to race truly (not competitively).

If he was a pacer he would have been sent back to trials but trotters get one free kick, why I am not sure.

Char Ming broke at the start and would remain ODM for that infraction.

Perhaps "warning issued"...it's the "last chance" bit I find interesting. Drivers who make mistakes are given multiple warnings ala "Ms Jones was advised etc etc" . Has Cardigan got multiple instances of breaking .....cant be too much of a problem if it has won 14 out of it's last 19 and seems heavy handed treatment compared to the featherfoot treatment of very dismal efforts from favoured pacers who perform dismally or the "ill judged" drives that get away with NO penalty . Even a "SD6 days, one satisfactory trial" but last chance seems to be very inconsistent.

I think you may reading too much into it Jay Jay.

The last chance reference indicates that if it were to offend again it would then receive a "stood down for one trial and six days penalty."

Okay, that makes sense. Thanks for clarification. Should probably be focussing on Bettors Fire jogging in, albeit not beating much but his last two runs indicate richer pickings ahead, especially with Kyle Harper saying he has plenty of room for improvement in the run up to the Inters. Wonder how many other father/son combos have trained/driven August Cup winners?

Just on a side issue - it appears M Woodley doesnt appear to be the no 1 driver for the Peter Anderson stable any - more -doesnt seem to drive for him at all at present

Anderson and Cassellas use to think the sun use to shine out of Morgans aaar....- they must have had a falling out

Chris Lewis ( who i think is a brilliant driver - far superior to Woodley) seems to be driving Andersons horses at present

Morgan goes alright, he just gets a big head at times, one day he might grow out of it,,

My fav driver atm is probably C Voak, pretty handy driver and they seem to run for him, nice soft hands

Voak drives well in general Magoo but to describe him as having nice soft hands I find hard to fathom.

He is all over them to the point that he even hits them with a whip when they are on the back of the horse in front and then pushes the limit on the whip rule at the finish of a race.

    Far from a pretty driver.

If you keep them on the bit they sprint harder when they get a split..... If they get a split,

Watch C.ALFORD does the same, doesn't cane them just flicks them when in behind

Coulson, Poyser, Johnson, Kersley...now they were pretty drivers....and fairly successful by any measure. Schrader, Austin, Demmler, W.BClarke....now they were definitely not pretty but they also had extreme success, so it all gets down to opinion. Always interesting to here other's takes on various drivers. In my view, we don't promote the virtues of the modern day driver or jockey anywhere near enough. In days past, they won WA Sportstar of the year awards...nowadays, they don't rate a mention. We have different media heroes now, perhaps for all the wrong reasons...Krygios, bad boy AFL players, Cricket brats etc. I rather liked it when Frank Treen, Tiger Moore and their pacing counterparts were household names.

Have to agree with Lincolnism, Morgan is a great bloke who years ago when he first started driving rubbed people up the wrong way but he admits that and he is a very humble person nowadays.
