Excess Knowledge is the first horse i'll put a line through.
It had a gutbuster yesterday. Good luck with the 3 day back-up.

I like Fame Game but cant swallow that price in the cup.

I also like Preferment, feels like Efficient all over again and after being his biggest supporter I couldnt stay with him in the cup after his leadup efforts, so hopefully Preferment will make amends for me.

I don't like Fame Game and it's way to short

I agree as well, Fame game will go around a big loser for me.

If i could just convince myself that criterion will run out the trip...

Also give bondi beach some hope, despite being so lightly raced he just wouldn't be in this race unless everything was right with him.

Could also back quest for more the place...

Fame Game way too short ?
If your after value, back Setorious at $200.
Does $4.00 Fame Game give it an extra couple of kilo's.

No, but if you liked Sertorius would you back it if it all that was on offer was $4.00?
  • detonatordetonator    4,397 posts
Any price about a winner is a good price. I wish I could get $4.00 the favourite in every race.
Wish I could have got $4.00 Tarzino on Saturday

Well ok then I'll say why i don't think he will win. I don't think he can take up a position, and he will be mathematically too far back in the run to win. I think its unlikely that there will be a tempo which will knock everyone out of the race so he ends up being the 'last horse standing' - where he ends up with some dream uninterrupted passage. This race should be run very differently to the staying races in Japan...

What I'm trying to say is that he doesn't look versatile. I think he needs cover and cant truck 3 wide, but he also will need an uninterrupted run home because he won't be able to start and stop. He is also weighted up to his very best with 57kg.

But that said, Purton could still put in a magic ride and steal it

I have seen 4 of his runs in Japan. He has come around and won. He has gone through them. He can sit midfield. If the Flemington track is fair for all, he should get run. Saturday bias was embarrassing.
But getting back to my original post, if you "believe" a horse will win why back another horse at a better price because you "hope" it may win.

Red Cadeaux...not in the form he has been in previous years, but maybe that has left him with just a little bit more in the tank for the big one.

I had small spec bets weeks ago on Kingfisher, Bondi Beach and Order of St George (didn't make the field) Dandino (didn't make the field) Ruling Dynasty (didn't make the field) am happy to cut my losses on all as the two left in the race I cant see winning

Fame Game picks itself but at the price I cant get involved but I will be taking in my first 4's to win... mind you it's out to as much as $5 after being as short as $3.90 only days ago

my picks and best results are -

Trip To Paris (off it Caulfield Cup run)

Red Cadeux (stablemate to my top pick and more of a sentimental punt)

Preferment - by far the best of the locals, money keeps coming for him this week, already into $10 and will definitely start single figures. trip is no concern, last years Derby winner following similar path to Efficient? has come back this prep a much better horse winning twice over distances that you'd usually think would be too short, forget the Cox plate run where he went round for practise, tomorrow is his GF

Almmonqith - Hayes stable going better than any at the moment, Geelong Cup has traditionally been a good guide for melb cup runners/winners, he's ran similar distances in Dubai and if you go back to his first up run behind The US at the Valley you knew he was in for a big prep over further distances.

The United States - the simple fact it's a Lloyd Williams horse and the only race he targets and wants to win each year is the Melbourne Cup, always gotta respect his horses in this race. Won the Mooney Valley Cup convincingly coming off the pace and making up a ton a ground to win which you rarely see at the Valley which means the trip should be no concern and has drawn well.

Fame game has been ordered by the stewards he must be ridden the same way as he was in the Caulfield Cup which mean he has to find a way through the wall of horses in the straight and not go around them.

That doesn't mean he can't settle closer in the run. Once the gates open it's a new race. Bailey is off his head if he thinks he can enforce that crap.

As visitors to Australia they just might follow the instructions.

Change of riding tactics advised by the trainer, will be ridden in a more forward position.

It will be a big change for the horse.

Im not going to over think things as usual

Trip to Paris for me, was as good a run as any in the Caulfield Cup ($9)

Roughie is Grand Marshall ($41), that Sydney Cup win convinced me he needs the trip and was a shade hampered with in the straight in the CC (albeit near the post)

    and the obligatory Trifecta boxed

    3-9-10-14-15-24

    Good luck!
