And that's me done. The moment they took a call, any call, from a member of the public was always going to be the final straw.

The people that call in to radio shows, on any station about any topic are the slowest, dumbest form of life on this planet.

Apparently taking calls, any calls, is the issue. Nobody is listening who wants to call them. Most folks listening are dong so as they work. The new format seems to have merit from what I have heard, but it's on at the wrong time of the day for me, so I haven't heard a lot.

But trying to get people to interact with them is almost meaningless.

    They obviously can't win.

Don't take talkback and they are not being transparent and ignoring the issues.

Take talkback and expose everyone to those with an agenda and/or no idea.

I still think the show has definitely improved and the interviews are much more interesting across the board.

It certainly was improving - and may still do so - but talkback is never the answer.

Go easy on me as this is my first post. I have been travelling around Australia for the past two years and have had little to do with racing or listening to the local station. Every now and then I listened to the breakfast show which seemed to be going nowhere. I have to congratulate the management at Racing Radio for making the changes. It is so refreshing to hear new hosts and the combination of sport and racing is exceptional. I've often wondered why Racing Radio didn't adopt a 3UZ approach but now it doesn't matter. Well done.

I loved hearing Joe Agresta this morning. That interview should have gone on longer. The Sheedy interview should have gone longer. If I was to be critical I would say that the timing needs addressing. Get the big names on and talk to them for a good period of time. The segments are great and I love some of the creativity. I heard the Banana Splits on Monday in one segment. I remember watching them with my son when he was 7 or 8. He is now 50.

I am not interested in talkback as mentioned on here previously. You open yourself up to idiots. I can get that on 6PR. Keep up the great work. Now that I am back home I will be tuned in. My wife even had a listen today which is quite remarkable.

Take No Prisoners could be one at odds tomorrow.

    Best wishes, Dick Thompson

Talk back would represent less than 5% of the total content so I am not sure why some are getting all worked up about it.

As I said before don't have it and they are not being transparent

Talkback can take it or leave it...but thank goodness we at least live in a country where its afforded..try ringing talkback with a complaint in North Korea :)] and many other places...kapow! Fortunately we live in the lucky country.

Welcome aboard @DaggerVee great first post. Don't agree with most of what you said, but over time you'll realise that probably means your spot on the money!!!! haha

Good to get the first one out of the way

Couldn't get into the Banana Splits...very nice to eat though. Was more interested in Mary Ann from Gilligans Island and Sam from Bewitched and those cute ladies from Land of the Giants! They never replied to my fan mail though! =((

That's true @Rio about the first post...and getting it out of the way...I was extremely nervous and reserved...now never shut up haha...my first post was about the Hannans Handicap...liked about 4 of them in the race...none of them ran a place...nothing's changed.

Had my first listen for a while this morning and enjoyed it. Thought Brittany did a top job as well. Good voice for radio and  knows her stuff.

Merv Hughes was interesting this morning but once again as with many of the special guests...over before it starts. Think even Merv was surprised that it ended so abruptly. Trying to fit so much in with limited time am guessing. Will be in the minority here but the more have thought about it the great job think Shorty did. His knowledge on all sports was unsurpassed...often with a punters perspective.

Keep the interviews longer. And Farrk off the days scratchings ????. Just my opinion.

But in this day and age everybody would be able to look at scratchings on there phones or tablets.

  • Ridersonthestorm33Ridersonthestorm33    10,939 posts
Elderly people or the vision impaired perhaps do rely on them. But does seem to take up a lot of time especially with so many meetings to go through. Sitting on the fence with this one. In this day and age don't think necessary but for the two groups above the scratchings service is probably required.

no disrespect but the scratching's are for old farts like my Grandad, as mentioned above they're easily accessible online or your phone or tablet etc... used to shite me when I'd be with him and he'd be tuning in at 9 o'clock to wait for the daily scr with his pen and form guide crossing them off one by one

Ah yes remember doing the scratchings the same way. The memories...my parents would think...that's great got got his pen and ruler in hand doing homework early on a Saturday morning. Small radio hidden. Form guide obscured under geography book. Was doing study alright...just a different type of study.

Hi all, long time no post. I hope you are all well.

    I have LONG had issues with Racing Radio, basically as soon as I heard they were outing Richie and Shortte.  While I concede the new format does have some good articles, the majority of it is garbage. Essentially the blame lies with the personnel, here is my synopsis;

Gareth Hall: this is the big shot we paid big money for? He cannot speak properly. Good general sports knowledge delivered in a pub bingo voice.
    Steve Butler: I like him.
D Macauley: WA's No.1 race caller should stick to that. Meandering, whimsical and without substance. Very few winning tips.
Wes: annoys me so much, like Racing radio's version of Jeremy Clarkson, part bully-part puerile wit, 100% right all the time...except for his tips.

How we miss Richie's dry humour and trots dissection! And Shortte's excellence in keeping the show running. He has great knowledge on all sports, and loads of charisma. they both made me laugh and I enjoyed the show. Now, the commentators seem to suck the fun out of it, and you can hear when Chris nelson and Deane Lester call in they no where near enjoy it as much.

I used to listen to racing radio every morning for my drive in, now I don't have a radio station. Really silly decision in my opinion.

@Paulo8   Gareth Hall & Chyna Marston could be teenage sweethearts. When they both turn 18 I'm sure their wedding will be the 'talk' of the Industry ;))

Each to his own Paulo but in my opinion the program is a great improvement under the new format.

Greater variety in guests and topics that cater for a wider audience.

I would have to agree that it seems the show has taken a step backwards. I also would listen religiously every morning, now not so much. I dont mind gareth hall but i think its more the format of the show. Steve butler loves to bring up all the people he has socialized with over the years, dmac loves to over broadcast and talk over the guests. Digby i like. The first hour on a monday is painful talking to all the journos around aus, and while the masters was in full swing and the heats of the inters starting up they wanted to spend way too much time talking about the wildcats and glory and golf ect. The show should be 80% racing and 20% sport, but thats just my opinion.
