If there was no fist pump no 1 would have said anything. Got beat on it’s merits. Should only get s fine 4 dropping his hands. But surely anyone with half s clue can see nothing untoward

Jason Brown must have access to the betting records that the stewards are privy too. How did he organise that?

Could you even get a fixed bet on Geraldton on Tuesday or was it just the WA tote? If just wa tote can't see him getting much more than a fine for incompetence. If something dodgy was going on surely all bets would have been cash through the tote.

You can see the young apprentice is hesitant to reciprocate the fist pump as well. Poor kid just thought he'd won the race fair and square #alwaysthelasttoknow

Fixed odds was not available for the entire meeting........only tote.
According to the bookies on course I spoke to, the "money" certainly wasn't for either of the Childs runners.

    cheers

General:  Stewards opened an inquiry into the handling of MISS HARLEY QUINN (R. Markou) over the final 100m with evidence being taken from Jockey R. Markou and Apprentice B. Kirby (STELLAR IGNITION).  After taking initial evidence Stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed.

Will be interesting viewing if we happen to get replays on CRIS for the Melbourne Cup meeting. Both horses trained by Sarah Childs.

Just playing Devil's Avocado...(love Kath and Kim). I hope people aren't naive enough to think that you can only bet legally and through registered bookmakers and TAB's. These are the ones where stewards can access betting records.
If I were an industry participant and wanted my betting activities hidden from stewards, it would be easy enough to bet with an (illegal) unlicensed bookmaker.
Just throwing it out there. Of course I'm not suggesting anything untoward occurred at Geraldton.

The thing is, if I could read minds and be guaranteed Markou did not have any intent to break the rules and he was 100% trying, I would still give him 3 months. Riding them out to the line is not rocket science. Jocks often go easy on them the last 50m and occasionally misjudge them and get a small fine. The stewards need to protect the integrity of racing by having zero tolerance for this from riders.
How many times did the Pontiff get fined for not riding them out and how many times did he get suspended for it? Fines clearly don't protect punters.

Not surprised. The media love to beat up on racing.
As usual it is just a very small number of people that cause the grief for the industry though. Gives racing a bad name these types of people.
The guy in SA who punched his horse - fair dinkum what was he thinking?
Markou and Co..... what was he thinking?
    Not bright either of them.

Maybe they'll start looking retrospectively at some of the results from the past few seasons. Wouldn't that be funny.

From the infamous Nat the Fyfe race

NAT THE FYFE Dwelt at the start, losing one length. Ridden forward and raced wide throughout and was taken wider from the 650m. Had a tendency to lay inwards when under pressure passing the 200m. Rider was interviewed in relation to his riding over the concluding stages of the race and he advised his mount is better suited when positioned no worse than midfield and being allowed to stride along from the 700m, however after losing ground at the start the gelding had to be ridden along in the early stages to achieve its most preferred pattern of racing and after being obliged to race wide throughout he rode it vigorously in the early stages of the straight but it then peaked on its run near the 200m and he therefore elected to balance his mount and ride it in a hands and heels manner to the finish line. He further added that the gelding was racing up in class today. After consideration of his explanation, Stewards issued Jockey with a warning in relation to his riding over the concluding stages and was advised that to avoid leaving himself open to question and possible action against him that he must show a greater level of vigour in similar circumstances in the future.

There is your precedent. Go have a watch of this race again. The whip style has definitely changed as well

And just to add salt to the punters wound is the blatant explanations of their actions or non actions in most occasions. "celebrating first quinella" =)) :)) ;)

Jason Brown an absolute spanner. Damning evidence, just sticking up for one of his own.

Trainer just as bad coming out with her comments.

Rub him out for a long time

It can be done and already is by a country club in WA. A very well done to the KBRC (Tim Beaver) who put the Kal replays on youtube.  =D>

Think you will find that Albany were even way more ahead of Kalgoorlie with that. Only needs someone with initiative manning club websites, this been pre CRIS replays I am talking about

Probably not a good idea for Jason Brown to comment (if its the jockey) but the theme of these threads is kick em hard in the guts
There was a genuine hot case this week and no doubt if the stewards had found it heads would have rolled but it seems to have gone un noticed.I don't intend to point the race out but all you know all far kwits are challenged to find the rort race.It has the 2 key ingredients of a rort .Betting drift and ride to match. That should make it easier
so instead of castigating Sarah Childs over nothing find the rort
  • britbratbritbrat    90 posts
If the inference that Markou didn't allow his horse to win then watch where he had it placed from the getgo.Puleeeze
No corporates bet on Geraldton on Tuesday but only the WA Tab so wheres the incentive to rort
If Geraldton was a stand alone Thursday or Sunday then thats different.coz all the corporates bet on the meeting
Keep searching for the real rort race coz its there
