That alcohol pricing is a disgrace..somewhere around 600% mark up on beer(based on the $9 a stubby post and thats for fugn midstrength to boot)and sounds like a bit more on those vodka's with a paltry 30ml shot in them.

I have seen these type of threads numerous times too, nothing will ever change though...entry fees will stay and remain excessive at carnival time, prices for beverages and food will continually be overpriced and the food quality generally underwhelming.

Lots to be said for a day at home with a full case of ice cold beer and facing no queues for anything, no fh's, no dui issues and or huge return taxi costs :D

PR lost me and my membership the day they started worrying about setting up haircut booths on course, instead of worrying about the loyal members who loved the sport for what it is and not what goes on around it.

If you're ever in Sydney, I recommend Canterbury races on a Friday night. Heaps of exotic food vans and the prices are reasonable (for the races). The last few times I've been it was free entry too. I took the wife and kids there for an hour or two and let them soak up the atmosphere.

I saw this with my own two eyes yesterday.

A couple of ....lets say bogans... at the bar on the first level at ascot.

They order a couple of pints and the lady says, thats $25,20 please.

they look at each other, puzzled....

She says yes, they're $12,60 each.

He points to the next tap and says, well, how much for a pint of that one?

she says $12.... the prices have all just gone up.

We commented to each other... who would come to Ascot for a couple of beers on a Wednesday... of all the places you could go..... and pay $12,60 for a pint?

Ill guarantee you, never again for those two blokes. (and no, they were not punching anyone, being idiots or getting ****... they were just a couple of bogans).

You can fudge figures all you like, but in Perth, thoroughbred racing is a dying breed. There are less horses in work, less starters, less financially stand alone viable clubs, less staff both on and off track and the list goes on and on. Actions like those of Perth Racing with their pricing policy is just a continuum of the decline.

flying colours...on an ordinary Saturday its about $85 a head. BUT for perth cup day..which is not a public holiday..its the 5th jan..its $190 a head!!

Dined out last night at local bar/restaurant .....several levels up from the local pub, nice venue. Pints of 150 Lashes for $9 bucks. $12.60 at Ascot is just plain and simple gouging. Say it again, $7 pints at JP's at GP is very fair.

A lot of meetings this year in Kalgoorlie were free entry and in my opinion it doesn't seem to change the crowd numbers too much. Not sure if the cost of gate admission really affects peoples decision to go the races or not.

Perth racing do also give out a lot of free gate admissions, inside race books and at other places. Last year at GP the night before the Railway, teams of Perth Racing promotional staff were handing out gate admission passes for the next days meeting.

It certainly effects my decision. I’ve been working 5mins from Ascot/Belmont for a year now.

If it was free entry, I’d stop by on my way home from work probably every Wednesday for a pint and a punt (I finish work at 2pm.)

they should be doing a $7 pint for midweek racing and they should always have a cheaper option on tap weekends aswell. Its not rocket science.

Get them into the races first, then once they’re inside the food and drinks sales will take care of themselves it’s not rocket science

Or go one better and offer free transport of some sort or for any punters that live out of town organise and put on a free shuttle service

Getting people through the gates and into the races should be priority and no price put on it (pardon the pun)
