Much  improved  Jockey  who  has  shown  the  benefit  of  stint  in  Singapore.
Sits  very   well  &  has  good  " hands &  heels "  style .
Follow .
P Harvey  is  49 , J Whiting  45  - look  out  for  J  Azzopardi  over  next  few  years .
Might  not  be  in  same  class  as  W Pike , C Parnham  but  will  certainly  be  on  ' the  up '  as  P  Carberry ,  T  Turner  etc  go  into  the  veteran  category .
+1 -1

No disrespect to the last two mentioned but Joey has them covered comfortably, is in the top 3 to 4 steerers in WA imo.

    Pike

    Harvey

Noske, Joey & O’Donnell in no particular order for 3rd, 4th & 5th... I doubt there’d be many that disagree with that top 5

Even the best can occasionally ride shockers - but it's no different to Steve Smith making a duck, or Pendlebury playing a quiet game - it happens.

...and the hoop that gave me my last collect - um that would've been Jon Claite in 2006 :-bd

Haha and it is true though.

Also we can cheer home a hoop one race and be against him the next, and vice versa.

There's a lot of variances in racing - beforehand the hoop is the least of my worries. Afterwards might complain - then forgotten.

Nothing wrong with having a whinge though...then move on.

alana sampson? lol none of them are top 5! top 10 yes but not 5

Pateman yes but lack of rides and issues with weight you can’t have him in your top 5 as a consistent pick but yes 12-18 months ago before Harvey made a dominant comeback Mitch would have been second to Pike before his most recent fall

Interesting stat, Kate Fitzgerald takes top honors for ROI.

    A whopping 230% from 44 rides.

If I had my pick. And I know I will get shot down here.

But I would pick P Harvey at full fitness over W Pike every day of the week.
Imagine if Harvey hooked up with Peters 15 years ago instead of Willy.

    So for me its
    P Harvey
    W Pike
    J Noske
    J Azzopardi
B Kirby (take his issues away, the boy can ride)

Donga will pick up where he left off once he does return
Mitch hopefully will start to warm up now the Kal season isn’t too far off

My top 5 is overall from years gone by razor, one good season doesn’t mean you make the cut for mine, I’m just as big a fan of him as the next bloke don’t get me wrong

Lucy Warwick is a must in that 3rd bracket if you're putting S.Parnham amongst them jesus

At times most jockeys could be ranked in the top 5, depending on form and opportunities. We've seen them all go on a run for a couple of months where they win plenty then they get more good rides and it snowballs from there.

Lucy, Kyra and Jade all can ride with any of the men and better than most of them. Weight restrictions seldom hamper their preparation for a ride either.

I really detest the overt sexism of WA Racing.

Its one of those things, its in the eye of the beholder. I favour jockeys that i can “catch” over those i cannot “catch”. For me Brad Parnham is well and truly in my top 3, gets me more winners on the punt than anyone.

It is a very subjective matter. There are a few of the riders and statements above that I disagree with whereas the people talking them up are pretty strong about it... each to their own.
there may be other reasons for the push though ie. they are their friend/relative/manager/other so it isn't necessarily a black and white discussion.
Also, as I have touched on above- The rider you favour now might be out of favour in 6 months... they might be out of form, might have carved one up that cost you a quid, etc etc. There are bandwagon bandits aplenty in every sport!
