Albany Trainer in the seventies her name was Margaret Skinner went to start horse at Kalgoorlie
last race of  the day , gets the saddle comes back to saddle up and the horse is going to town, she informs stewards this is totally outta character his behaviour.

Stewards inform her she can scratch which she does its swabbed come's back positive. I believe she received 12 months suspension, friend reckons she received no suspension. Anyone remember the incident, Would have been charged with presenting horse to race that was positive?.
  • Guys I need some input from everyone basically who can u recommend as a decent two year old trainer and one who is honest and straight up aswell as being good with their horses welfare and also future racing after 2?also don’t want my horse to be just a number in a sea of horses so someone not as big as a Simon miller etc

Not being disrespectful but I feel that Dion is great with them young, but @Slippergypsy said they want a trainer who can keep them going beyond 2yo... my perception is that this aspect isn't traditionally a strength of Dion.

Dan Morton is an easy choice on training talented two year olds that go on to have a career. I have to ask though, are you a Breeder or a Purchaser ? Who has broken in your now two year old and where has it spent it's first 18 months ? If you are making these decisions only now, you most likely have a very late two year old or more likely a three year old debutant.

You may find that upon inspection, a quality Trainer may decline what you're offering as just because it has four legs and a tail, it may be just a camel. Space and Staff are limited resources so just because you are looking for a Trainer of two year old's, those that enjoy that reputation also have a standard they purchase too or accept as time is money and there is only so much of it to go around.

If however you are looking to purchase in the coming yearling sales season, align yourself with proven Trainers that can pick a yearling year in year out and not just the ones that get lucky every few years with the odd good horse. Good judges of 2 & 3yo's in my opinion would be David Harrison, or Dan & Ben Pearce.

If you have something extraordinary, let Grant & Alana Williams pick it out. If you can convince them to give up a spot in their yard for whatever you have bred or bought.

Dion has 56 horses listed, someone like Tony Triscari has 16 horses listed, his last couple of seasons which only
he had handful of horses, results have been quite remarkable.
But as Damien said so much to factor in.prior to decision. Someone that rides there own work is a big plus.

A consistent trainer of 2yos that can see them go on deep in their career. That is a unique brief now that I think about it.

Then there are trainers who are not keen on 2yr olds, they would rather have horses with a long career.

Bomber Bill won 7/7 as a 2yo making his debut before Xmas 1997. He won a Grp 3 in Melbourne in 2006 as a 10yo. Retired having won 23 races. He won 17 stakes races. Tough!

One who I think fits your criteria is Russell Stewart. Smallish team. Can get a 2yo who trains on. Underrated imo

Bomber Bill older he got the tougher he got, Two different trainers believed his two year old success was based on there input
. Bit like Joe Agresta when Bart died, how he use to tell Bart we got to do this with horse, x etc. and he would let him,
Foreman Leon Corstens said he made all the decisions because Bart lived in Sydney, Leon learnt alot he had minimum of seven postives after he left Bart. poor old Anthony picked out Might and power& Defier as yearlings.
