Been betting for a fair while re decent bets exclusively in NSW , with the exception of Menangle of course

But Super keen on one at Penrith tonight - Race 7 no 9 Mister Quirk  @ the $26 - you can only go on its efforts in NSW , its last 2 runs - in particular its last run , where it did a mountain of work in slick time over the long distance and stuck on really good  - back to the sprint trip tonight which will suit

My only concern is , and not suggesting anything untoward but they have stood down recently about 5-6 trainers in NSW , blokes who  improve horses . And Mr Quirk had not form at all in SA , on those runs they would have bought the horse for about a grand tops

Interesting race this - the 2 equal faves at Even money , one trained by the son Michael and the other trained by the father Ian Stanley , lets hope there is a bit of ill feeling between the 2 of them  - and they declare each other on .

I posted this back in July 25 - commentating about the amazing improvement in Mister Quirk - its won 6 races ( and won Frid night at Penrith ) since Josh Farrugia  bought it and took over its training - as i mentioned at the time , it had no form at all at Globe Derby under the previous trainers

And im not suggesting anything untoward at all , but Josh must be one of the best trainers in Aust i reckon

He has bought a mare called Miss Blue Stork who was a terrible low class horse , raced around Dubbo and Parkes on a Friday night - would start 100-1 to 150-1 no good at all

Its last start for the previous trainer 8th of 10 beaten 20 metres  2.01 over 1700 metres very slow mile rate - 4 back the pegs , struggling at the bell - watch its replay Boxing night 26/12 at Dubbo race 6  - the previous trainer must have been feeding it cream cakes !!!

Then Josh F bought and  trained the horse - won 3 out  of 4 commanding victories , have a look at its latest victory , Penrith last Frid night  race 3 - 20/3 - won by over 20 metres in 1.54.7 and started  at $1.33

Is that the same horse ???? - like i say im not suggesting anything untoward , but in 60 plus years of following Trotting  ive never seen a horse improve like this thing

I wonder if the war is prolonged what the effect will be on Harness racing in WA? Has there been any information from Racing WA about how racing will adapt or continue should energy prices continue to rise?

For some context we travelled over 300ks return on Sunday to race at Bridgetown, excellent meeting etc, and paid $2.93 per litre for diesel. This was with one horse, who ran last. Whilst a $50 subsidy was kindly made available from the clubI didn’t take this up as taking funds from a community organisation didn’t sit well at this point. As I write this, diesel in the area I live in has just gone up to $3.05 too, the first time it has gone over $3.

Can anyone tell me how many positive swabs it use to be before you got life?

    It should be one.

Due to probable legal challenges it is a rarity these days for positive swabs and more so drivers/jockeys charged for not giving horses best possible opportunity in a race

The problem with the industry and the powers to be is it welcomes back recidivists with open arms.  People with more than 3 positives are welcomed back by the administrators. What also dosent help is we clearly have either the most incompatent stewards panel or the actually dont give a f*ck. Im torn as to which one it is.

Never seen a horse in my lifetime climb off the canvas and win as many tim

i think people are very quick to forget that alot of the decisions made out on the track are very much split second decisions if that, if we were to charge every driver/jockey for every wrong rein they pulled in the heat of competition we wouldnt have any left

Been really busy past 3 months or so havent had much time spare - but i finally hjave now

Noticed tonight at Redcliffe tonight Greg Bennett is back driving after 15 years in the wilderness - got disqualified -n re those 2 stewards on the take for not swabbing horses

If you want to see an absolute miracle win , unbelievable win then race 5 at Redcliffe last night i reckon is worth a watch

Yes i did have a little bit on it E/W drew 8 went 3 pegs - leader and fave collapsed got dragged back to basically last - even with 40 metres to go its going to run nowhere then you have to watch to see what   happens

By the way where have all the posters gone from this forum - gone down with the deck chairs on the Titantic - i reckon Chris should stick to his guns - in that if your not a member and dont log in then you cant read posts

Last night at Geelong harness they had the Greg Sugars memorial Trot - i watched a replay that prompted me to google whether they had found out  what actually killed him - because for a long time they didnt know - speculation was a brain aneurysm

But they now have determined it was a heart problem known as LQTS - irregular beat - pity he didnt have a few symptoms because an ECG would have picked it up

It runs in families - and his sister Kylie is very fortunate because they have determined she has got it as well - but knowing that they can give her medication to control it

Like most things the NR system has its positives and negatives .

My thoughts are that, although it is a huge improvement on the HWOE system,it could be a lot better with the tweaking of a few rules and policies.

Firstly my biggest bugbear is horses who have won races, some a number of races with stake money over $100,000,being on a NR lower than a maiden or a horse that has never started.
It is beyond belief, a maiden is a maiden and should be rated as the lowest possible class.

Some will say there is races set aside for horses with no wins as a clause but this doesn't change the fact their NR is 50 that is what they have been rated as,and horses mentioned above are as low as NR30.
The system is NR and the majority of races are handicapped on NR,oddly there are races that these maidens and unraced horses cant even start in, because their rating is to high.

I'm dead against drop back rules, but if there is a need for them surely putting a cap on how far a horse can drop back should come into play.
For instance say if the lowest rating is NR30 a maiden,(which all horses should start at), a horse who has won 5 races in its career can't ever go below say NR35 and a horse with 10 wins can't go below NR40 and so on, irrespective of their recent form.
Something similar to this, would be a improvement, even a cap on prize money won, could be considered.
I'm sure this would make it a lot fairer for all, particularly those owners who have stuck by their horses over a period of time and expense to get them to the racing stage.
Remembering all horses and owners were in the same boat at some stage.

Not sure if there is a age limit on junior drivers or not, but the concession available to them is way too high, especially being able to get a claim until they drive 250 winners. .
I ask how many drivers have driven 250 winners in their careers.

Recently there was a update on the preference policy, which as they say aims to deliver,
1 More efficient and timely field selection and release.
    2 Improved field sizes
3 Fairness across the industry to all participants.

Also as part of that policy update, it was stated that Racing WA at its discretion, may allocate a horse balloted from a race , to another race it wasn't nominated for, with its trainer having the option of scratching without penalty when the fields are released.

This totally goes against the rules of nominating and accepting a horse for a race and the time frames allowed.
Trainers should be told, if they want to start their horse on that particular night to nominate for all races eligible, surely this would help with the 3 aims above.
At the present time, trainers who only want to start in a particular race are getting a advantage if that race should fall over, by being put in another race, they never nominated for, then seeing where they draw, then having the option of scratching with out penalty if not happy.
How is that efficient and how is that fair to all the other trainers who have abided by the nominating rules.
Its not only what system is in place, it also matters how its run.
Posted this comment a while back regarding Racing WA, at its discretion putting horses in races they were not nominated for and allowing the the trainer the option of scratching without penalty.
This occurred last Friday in race 2 with two horses trained by the same trainer placed in that race and while they came up with barriers 1 and 2 the trainer opted to scratch obviously thinking they were well out of their class.
What goes un-noticed is the preferential draw gets thrown out of whack.
The eventual winner and favourite Fakenit No.5 who started from barrier 3 and led all the way should of actually started from the inside of the backline in barrier 10 if those horses were not placed in that race.
    Order of preference in barrier order is 1 2 3 4 10 11 5 6 7 12 8 9.
With 1 and 2 not there 10 and 11 would of started in 3 and 4 and 5 (Fakenit)  and 6 in 10 and 11and so on .
Just another reason no horses should be placed in races they havent nominated for by acceptance time.
Again the simple solution is to tell all trainers that if they want a start on a particular night to nominate for all races that their horse is eligible for in preference order and if they are not nominated for any race that would mean they do not want to be in that race .

Id say she couldn't hold the breeze horse, it is becoming a concerning regular occurrence of some of these female junior drivers not being able to hold particular horses , I know in the thoroughbred world the majority of jockeys are regulars in the gym maintaining a decent fitness level and working on the strength required to hold a puller, might be time Aldo has a word to them

Nothing to do with the Trots - but  would be interested in Chop Chop and Warren opinion - seeing they are trainers/horsemen

But if you google - Horrifying moment racehorse violently  kicks stable worker sending her to hospital

This happened in Yorkshire - there is only 5 seconds of video - she camew up on the right hand side of the horse - put her left hand out - and reached towards its shoulder - neck - and that horse - this wasnt a double barrel out of fright  - that horse lined her up to put her into Kingdom Come - she is so fortunate that she is still breathing

Roughly 4 years ago one of matt scotts horses twenty nine twelve lined me up when he was on the rail , think the horse was there just getting swell down on he's legs after track work, both barrels sent me flying , got me right on the knee, any lower and it would of snapped my leg , any higher and only god knows the damage it would of done, blown acl was what came out of it but I still count my lucky stars to this day and learnt never to trust a horse
