Stewards report from Kal 10/11/11
GENERAL
ROBS RABBIT (Jason Keys) was a late withdrawal from Race 4, at tonight?s race meeting, when Stewards inspecting the stable of Trainer Jason Keys, found this runner being stomach-tubed prior to the race meeting. Stewards took evidence from Mr Keys, in regards to the incident and notified him that an inquiry would be set for a date and time to be fixed. Stewards took swab samples from all of Mr Keys? runners at tonight?s event.
RACE 3: JAN DOYLE MS PACE (2150M)
SNAPPY RUFUS (Jason Keys) ? Driver was suspended for 21 days under the provisions of Rule 156(3)(b) for an incorrect whip action.
RACE 6: SCOTT & KRISTY BETTERIDGE CONDITIONED HANDICAP SS PACE (2518M)
Driver Jason Keys was questioned in regards to an incident racing out of the back straight on the final occasion, whereby the horse he was driving, BATAVIA JACK, shifted to a position one off the marker pegs after initially leading the field. After questioning Mr Keys, viewing the official film on a number of occasions and acting on their own observations, Stewards charged Mr Keys with improper driving issued under the provisions of Rule 168(1). The specifics of the charge were that, racing out of the back straight on the final occasion, Mr Keys has deliberately shifted the gelding away from the marker pegs to allow a clear run for his stable mate THREE DEEP POCKETS (Matthew Saw), which had been racing behind BATAVIA JACK. Mr Keys pleaded guilty to the charge and his reinsperson?s licence was suspended for a period of 3 months, to take effect immediately. Stewards ruled that this penalty would be served concurrently with the suspension, that Mr Keys had been given earlier in the night, for an incorrect whip action.

Stewards look at tube treatment

Pinjarra trainer-reinsman Jason Keys faces an inquiry after Racing and Wagering WA stewards saw Perth winner Robs Rabbit being treated with stomach tube drenching treatment at a stable on the day he was due to race at Kalgoorlie.
Samples have been taken from the horse and chief harness racing steward Bill Delaney said yesterday his panel would further investigate a tubing treatment incident before the Golden Mile Trotting Club's meeting last Thursday.
Treatment on race days is prohibited under racing rules.
"We expect to formally open an inquiry next week," Delaney said.
Stewards ordered Robs Rabbit, a Gloucester Park winner on October 18, to be scratched from last Thursday's Memorial Pace (1750m).
Keys, 38, said he would defend the charges. "Robs Rabbit wasn't being treated to boost his race performance," he said.
"His treatment was linked to the fact he hadn't been eating or drinking normally in Kalgoorlie.
"I planned to declare him a late scratching on Thursday, after the treatment. But stewards walked in to see me on another matter, just before I would have gone to the trotting club office and lodged a withdrawal. It didn't look good."
Stewards attended the stable to discuss reinsman Shane Loone's allegation that Keys punched him in the face as their horses slowed following a recent Kalgoorlie trial. No action was taken after stewards said they lacked proof.
But Keys was suspended for three months for improper driving in Thursday's Betteridge Handicap (2518m), contested by Keys-trained horses, Three Deep Pockets and Batavaia Jack.
Stewards alleged Keys, driving Batavia Jack, eased out and allowed an inside run for Three Deep Pockets, driven by Matthew Saw. Three Deep Pockets ran third and Batavia Jack 10th.
