Always one of the best days during the Belmont season.

Roma Cup looks a great race with Grand Nirvana, King Kool Kat, Luckygray, Our Ol' Fella The Underworld, Zester, Avante, Dreamaway and Power Princess returning from SA.

bugger, that would have been an awesome match, barakey v luckygray!
i think barakey would have him covered over 1200 though..

Don't worry about Barakey..it would've won by the length of the straight  ...where's Colour Correct????

I'll be getting on Grand Nirvana..been good at the start of campaigns over a long period of time.....Luck Gray still has to prove itself with some weight on it's back..IMO

I still think Power Princess will take a ton of beating if she hasn't taken any harm from her trip back to WA.

She gets in good at the weights considering she is the equal 2nd highest rated horse in the race and the highest of the mares yet still gets a 2 kilo advantage over some very handy horses.

The only thing she has to overcome is drawing barrier 10 of 12 but still it could be worse.

I think it would be good for Racing in WA if Luckygray won and did it in a style that looked like a Group 1 winner should look. But overall I don't think this race is a particularly great year for the Roma Cup and for it's Group 3 status. Whilst some of the field are talented runners, others have ratings that don't mirror their current form.

Should Luckygray fail to win this race I can't see how he would ever beat Barakey if and when they would ever meet. Luckygray is such a standout against this field, his not winning will leave many questions.
  • Lucky Grey is certainty, go back to his win in the Asian Beau when Donger dropped his reins, was simply the win of of a top class horse. Barakey wont be able to cope with his barnstorming finish when the meet
  • " But overall I don't think this race is a particularly great year for the Roma Cup and for it's Group 3 status."

by your thinking Grand Nirvana should be a living certainty then, with P Princess to run 2nd.

As well as a gr-1 winner in Dreamaway ahhhh YAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWN
Im with PB i would love to see Luckygrey against Barakey but probably wont happen for a while as the trainer likes to bank ratings points not cash !!!!

$4.50 would be fair. From the gate will have to get back and run over the top of Grand Nirvana at WFA which will not be easy!

Oh please give me a bit of that $4.50. If the tab put that out then they will be pulling a joke.
My best advice is have a look at the fixed odds, if they are decent then get involved. People on course look at Luckygrays form and throw the cash on him, he will be crunched possibly into the red on Saturday.

8 horse field, he will lope out of the gates sitting at the worst 5 lengths off the leader out the back. Shauny will make his run as they start coming around the corner, then by the time the straight hits - BAM. Game over. Only danger is Power princess, she has a nice sprint but doubt it can keep up with the Grey!

Agree Rogue...I actually think based on the WFA format that i'll be backing Grand Nirvana due to LG not having any weight advantage.

But agree with your description of what may happen..just think GN may be able to hold him out.

Having said i'm on GN...if anyone puts up 4.50 for LG I'll be going to the hole in the wall and having a bit of that action!!!!!

Looks like our wishes of that $4.50 were far off? ha ha.
Taking the $2.40 is a bit short, but i can see it getting shorter on the day.
Mmm wonder if the place tote will be decent on the day!
