R1. Westspeed Nursery - Gary Wright

The opening race of the Belmont season sees Rebel King get his chance to show his wares and bring up his maiden victory. There were enormous wraps on this horse when he started twice at Ascot earlier in the year, he may have been a little unlucky in that first start behind Palace Intruder when copping severe interference, he then buttered up in the Magic Millions and returned a little sore, so its fair to say we havent seen the best of this horse as yet. A blistering trial win last week indicates we are ready to see him race to his potential, and the nice barrier helps also. William Pike hops on board in what could be a big day for that jockey, all pointers to a really good showing here. Sass'N'Glam comes off an impressive debut when winning at Ascot on April 23 and looms as the other big chance here on that effort, the Luciani stable look to have a nice filly here. Our Memory Girl probably leads and gives them something to catch and the first starter in First Among Equals will be worth including in novelties after a showing some pretty good trial form.

2. REBEL KING - 7. SASS 'N' GLAM - 1. OUR MEMORY GIRL

SUGGESTED BET - 2. REBEL KING $60

R2. Westspeed Sprint - Gary Wright

Only a small field but some nice types in this race, with some good form exposed. August Knight has been going very well of late, very hard to fault his form and the stable is also flying at present. There does seem to be a lot of speed on here, hard to suggest who actually does win that speed battle, and this may suit August Knight, who probably sits over them and sprints home, he does have really good form over the five furlongs to recommend him. Zedfire Express is another of the main chances, her first two starts resulted in victories, then she did run a couple of nice races in stronger company before going for a short let up, she returns today and will be interesting to see how good she really is. You Will Be Queen is a speedster, has been running some good races over the sprint journey of late, and should again be in the firing line, as should Onadowntowntrain who ran them off their legs last start at Ascot, but does go up in weight here and draws the outside barrier, they may be obstacles that prevent him making it two in a row today.

    2. AUGUST KNIGHT - 8. ZEDFIRE EXPRESS - 1. YOU WILL BE QUEEN

    SUGGESTED BET - 2. AUGUST KNIGHT $50

R3. Westspeed Stayers Bonus Handicap - Gary Wright

A small field here and Ora Dare gets his chance to shine back at Belmont Park. He should strip fitter for two runs back from a spell and appreciate the rise to 2000 metres this afternoon. Its probably fair to say there isnt a lot of depth to this field and on his best form Ora Dare would take care of these quite convincingly. He did get a fair way back last week, that wont happen in the small field today, and he could win his fourth race at the track from seven starts. Totes Amaze flew home last week over 1800 metres to finish a close second to Dragonlead, he rises to this distance today for the first time but on last weeks effort, he looks to have a good chance in this race. California Valley ran a good race last start behind Dollar Down and is another with good prospects in this, and Desert Glow ran a good race in the Albany Cup last Sunday week, he has been racing consistently of late.

    1. ORA DARE - 6. TOTES AMAZE - 2. CALIFORNIA VALLEY

    SUGGESTED BET - 1. ORA DARE $50

R4. Perth Racing Members Handicap - Gary Wright

Fuchsia Bandana has a winning strike rate of over 50 per cent now, he won quite easily last week, as he was expected to do when starting odds on, and every start he goes up against a little stronger field and passes with flying colours. Another great ride for Pike here, he should sit in a commanding position and be very hard to hold out in the straight. The 1300 metres looks ideal and he is drawn to be put into that great position in running. Need A Lift looks the big danger, the long Belmont straight should suit his racing style, indeed he is two from two at winter headquarters. His last run was a good one when flashing home in the Fitzpatrick Plate, the major sprint race of the Albany season, as long as he doesnt get hemmed in from the inside draw he should be able to produce a good finishing sprint here. Baleen In Me has only been unplaced three times in her career. and they are her last three starts, not quite sure she has come back as well as she was when last in work, but today will tell in the small field, she gets her chance to show her best if she is up to it. Carry The Nation may be next best, he has been unlucky for connections drawing terribly most starts, which hasnt helped at all.

    8. FUCHSIA BANDANA - 3. NEED A LIFT - 9. BALEEN IN ME

    SUGGESTED BET - 8. FUCHSIA BANDANA $50

    R5. Tabtouch.com.au Handicap - Gary Wright

A few good types in this race, a pretty good race upcoming. Once again William Pike may salute here on Fashion Princess, she has been freshened up since her last start and is coming back to 1200 metres, but if we get speed up front she may be a chance to run over them, and at probable each way odds today. She was most unlucky last start, but at her top she is probably a little better than her opposition today. We are probably going a little on spec here over the shorter distance, but a good draw, a pretty good Belmont record and Mr Pike just sways me to tip her each way. Mia China Doll returns for a new stable today, she does have a great record first up and over the 1200 metres, and probably leads here and could prove hard to run down, the 58kgs is a concern first up after a long break though, still she does have class on her side. Songburg is a consistent type, maybe should have won a couple more races of late, she has been a beaten favorite at her last two starts, but has still run good races but without winning, and one at odds may be Rosalie, this certainly isnt the Starstruck Classic or the La Trice, she will appreciate the drop in class from those sort of fields this afternoon.

    4. FASHION PRINCESS (NZ) - 2. MIA CHINA DOLL - 7. SONGBURG

    SUGGESTED BET - 4. FASHION PRINCESS (NZ) $25 x $25

R6. Aiw Printing Pty Ltd Handicap - Gary Wright

Western Gem has been racing far and wide of late but has been winning, the old saying winning form is good form may apply here. Last start she ventured to the Great Southern and duly won at Albany, starting as favorite and getting the job done. Her only defeat in four race starts was at Ascot in the Champion Fillies Stakes, obviously this field is a lot more to her liking today. Another good ride for William Pike here, he looks to have the jockey challenge at his mercy this afternoon. Western Gem may drop back a little from this barrier but she should be finishing well at the end of this race. Bayatorio probably sets the pace and could prove hard to run down with 52kgs, Channelle O'Grady is at her best on these front running free wheeling types, Bayatorio does rise to 1400 metres and has to contend with the long Belmont straight today, his biggest test to date. Wanderlust is nothing but consistent, and should be a good novelty hope once again today, finding it hard to win but always as honest as the day is long, and Run For Rum should improve on his first up effort at Ascot last weekend, he is a good type when at his top.

    11. WESTERN GEM - 5. BAYATORIO - 4. WANDERLUST

    SUGGESTED BET - 11. WESTERN GEM $25 x $25

Dangerously is in probably the best form of his career, racing very well at Saturday city level and looks one of the major players in this race today. The 1600 metres probably is the unknown factor here, it does appear to be right up his alley but he has been unplaced twice over the mile. However his form since resuming has been top notch and we will ignore that fact and go on the way he is currently racing, a terrific win over When We Were Kings flooding home, followed by a good third to Thunderluv'n last start, he probably drops out here and uses the longer straight to make his prescence felt. Pure Glamour is another good ride for Pike , once again the 1600 metres may test, but she is so consistent and ran a nice third in the Fitzpatrick Plate last start at Albany, she is always one with a good place chance at least, once again a runner to insert into novelty bets at the very least today. Full Steam Ahead is always a danger in these sort of races over these sort of distances, he has a good record at the mile and should also be in the firing line here, and Mac It Is could go better today, maybe not the best ride last week when he couldnt get a crack at them down the straight.

    3. DANGEROUSLY - 9. PURE GLAMOUR - 2. FULL STEAM AHEAD

R8. Happy 50th Bruce Perkins Handicap - Gary Wright

The big field as always to close the meeting, and quite a few with some hope here. However will go with the Kersley trained Zuccheros who does look to have potential. His first run back this time in he came flashing home from the rear when third to Point To The Sky and he has no doubt improved in fitness since then. He may settle back but should be coming home hard and he does show quite a lot of promise of going on to bigger things, we will go for him here on what should be each way prices. A very consistent horse is Hennessy Raider, he is a very honest horse, and has a nice draw in this big field, should settle close enough to the pace and be right in the hunt for honours today. Inok may set the pace for Jerry Noske, he goes well for this jockey and loves the 1200 metres, in fact all his eleven wins have been over the six furlongs, a nice statistic that one, whether he can hold on down the longer straight at Belmont is problematical, but you always get a run for your money with this horse. California Dude and Wotchinyu may be others to play around with in novelty bets in this final race on opening day.

    9. ZUCCHEROS - 10. HENNESSY RAIDER - 1. INOK (NZ)

    SUGGESTED BET - 9. ZUCCHEROS $25 x $25

Onadowntowntrain is a very serious racehorse in the making look for improvement again

I've got him as my best tomorrow should get across and lead again. August Knight gets the bar plates on think Onadowntowntrain could be close to favourite by jump.

Well after how he was ridden first up at Ascot he was a moral at Pinjarra where it seems they make a beeline for that outside rail in the straight races-a bit like the straight races at Sha Tin in HK. You certainly don't want to be on that rail back hoping for an out. If you are a back marker, the center of the track at Pinjarra is your only chance.

I reckon Reale Fury is running into form well and the drop back in the distance over recent runs is always good for them..also the 350m straight should help him in the run home with only 54kg's on his back..reckoon he will start shorter than 9.50 too, as people serach for a track specialist with value.
