Track Condition Saturday

West Australian Racing

Pinjarra looked like a ploughed paddock when the last was run on Wednesday.
CRIS lists Belmont as Dead 4 for Saturday.
I live in Canberra so I have no clue - did Belmont get that heavy rain on Wednesday - would the currently posted Dead 4 be accurate?
(I could ask a Committeeman - he'd tell me that it never rains on racecourses).

Got a fair bit of rain overnight and also this evening - looks like we are in for a bit more over the next few days.

As a rule Belmont handles the rain really well. I can remember it being touted as one of, if not , the best wet weather turf track in the country.

Unfortunately =)) as it is only the 2nd meeting at the track this season - I wouldn't hang my hat on that still being the case.

All things being normal though it takes a lot more rain than we have had to warrant a rating any lower than that

We had 47 mils the highest one day rain fall in Perth in 3 years some more today Friday an Saturday we will get more rain the track will be soaked

It looked a picture last week should hold up
    But it will be heavy

Wet weather horses who are on pace runners the go not much will come from
Behind on Saturday the lane will be about 6 off the fence by the last they will be on the outside fence

Belmont drains well ...and a bit of wind ...sorted :).dead4/5..i doubt heavy but I may stand corrected ..Belmont will need more rain to get to heavy and no wind ..my weather finger, nose and gut vs the weather man says we dont get too much rain and the breeze will keep the track dead 4..possibly 5 if we get a possible late partial showers Saturday ..maybe throw up a swamp donkey for the last race

Almost in two minds regarding this meeting. It has zero attraction to me on any level except if it rains constantly between now and when racing commences.

Belmont is very good for flying mud in the depths of Winter, and any photographer willing to leave the cover of the grandstand should don the wellington boots and come for a walk in the long grass, preferably with a rain suit on and capture something akin to real sports photography.

It's just too bad this program is nothing more than a Wednesday in quality.

2nd week back at Belmont, the fields are a bit of a concern. When scratchings come through, most fields will be 10 or less.
The first month or so back at Belmont is usually pretty strong on numbers from memory.

I always thought it was notoriously small fields for the change overs, no matter whether to or from Belmont. They haven't been too bad this year, but as we have all commented on for a while there really isn't a lot of quality there.

Just jealous I don't have one going around at the moment!!

What about that section just after the 400M point of the home turn ? It was inspected during the card last week and the curator had a long look at it after the last. With the rail at 6M it most likely is not the racing surface today.
