A good even field Gil even with David Hercules drawing well. It is a pity no Eastern Staters have made the trip but I think you could realistically make a case for almost all of the runners.

I think the 3 Hall Horses will have a profound impact on the race depending upon whether they go forward and take on David from 4,5 and 6, thus maybe setting it up for a sweeper. Not a huge Hall fan but I think he has grounds for raising the point that Soho Lennon and Machtu (in particular) got balloted. But all 7 getting a start would have really made it interesting.

Mactu done nuthin to gain a start really when you go bak and look at its form.. Just another hyped up hall horse. Soho lennon bit stiff but My hard copy should have definately got a start ahead of copagrin and billies a star....Cant see how they will beat Tuxedo Tour!!!!!

No doubt that DH leads and TT gets his back. The interest is in who attacks first and more importantly when. If DH gets a soft first quarter he will just go too fast in the last lap for the backmarkers to catch up. Last time he ran this journey he was afforded an easy first quarter of the last mile and then rated 55.8 for the last half. If they keep the pace on throughout then TT has the best seat in the house because DH will fight until the end. And if the early contest goes as planned with DH and TT running the arm then SG gets a lovely drag from behind DH and lands herself a prominent position without much fuss. Could be worth an each way ticket. She's gone 3/3 track and distance (granted they were the Oaks, Emporess, and a M0) but I can't ignore that kind of strike rate.

On another note, good to see that 5 of the 12 starters (including the top 2 in the market) are WA bred.

It's a quandary race for Woodley with a lot of 'what ifs"? What if the 4,5 or 6 pour it on early....does he hand up or get run into the ground? I dont think Toretto can win parked out, so does he just keep charging?  If TT sits, will he get clear running? The more I look at it, the greater the number of conspiracy theories I come up with...very interesting race...perhaps not as classy as previous Cup fields go but very intriguing race.

Kevin keys has declared in an interview that tuxedo tour will be leading....Now it all becomes interesting..

I would have been surprised if Tuxedo Tour did not intend to lead as surrendering to David Hercules virtually gifts him the race.

I agree I never thought they'd be handing up on TT, wether that's the right move or not time will tell but as the old saying goes don't die wondering.

I see herc in the breeze the whole way, nothing willing to take the chance that he might not hand up if they do come around The lead two ramping it up slighty too early which is why I think the horse camped just off them with a kick, Billies A Star will win.

I will not be wagering the house on this theory though!

Tremendous coverage of the race in The West this morning.

I wouldn't worry about what Kevin Keys says... No disrespect but David Hercules will find the top make no mistake about that.

Very true Shovhog. To 'intend' and to 'achieve' are two very different things.

Carl Coady says Gary Hall has advised  that Northview, Toretto and Soho will be restrained at the start.....why would you declare that.....surely you leave your options a bit more open than that.....if the 2 and the 3 go like cats and you can drop in behind them???? I think if they go back, they will have little chance. Perhaps Heez on Fire is the only one who can come from the back. If they go back, it puts Sensational Gabby and Billies into the race. Keys says categorically his instructions to Hall will be don't let David cross you and the Hercules camp responded with "Good luck to them". Shaping as a fascinating race.

Agree with Linc something would have to go very wrong for the Hall horses to slot in in front of Billies Star or Sensational Gabby, so going back and hoping for some suicidal early pace.

Would love it if Tuxedo Tour wins for the Marsdens & Campbell's. The Busso trots will go ballistic if he gets up. I don't know that even if he does lead, whether he can withstand the pressure in this class though. He has always been above average, Kevin Keys doing a great job now with the horse really hitting his straps.

Tactics have made this race interesting. I highly doubt Tuxedo Tour can play a part leading. He's too inexperienced in this grade. Hercules will sit outside him and beat him. I'd be really keen Billies A Star if he had a season of Free For All company under his belt, going to get the right sort of run but maybe a touch inexperienced in the class. Hokonui Ben just needs an element of luck, he's getting back to his best. Bettor Fire tough from draw. Copagrin can fill a hole. Toretto is the only hall horse who can run top 4 in my opinion. Sensational Gabby a first 4 hope. Dundee Three impossible.

Tips - Herc, Billies A Star, Hokonui Ben, Copagrin

R1. Lunar Tide - this is his race, looks the winner, short but sweet.
R2. Dardy Delight - rock bottom odds. The Dyfi Dabbler each way hope.
R3. The Phantom, maps well for mine
R4. Our Jimmy Johnstone - too short for me but should win.
R5. Ohoka Kentucky, should be ready now. Good each way.
R6. I'm having something small on 2,3,8,9 - like My Hard Copy on an each way basis
    R7. Refer to above.
R8. Torrevean Amunindi each way, driver a big concern horse is going well. Westernator gets his chance and Authorized lay of the night.
R9. Harriet Elisabeth, pretty short. Keep following Hoylakes Firstlady, trials have been strong will improve on whatever it does tonight.
R10. Major Reality is a good horse and think it can return a winner.

    Best Bet : R1. N1. Lunar Tide
Best Each Way : R5. N9. Ohoka Kentucky
    Best Roughy : R8. N4. Torrevean Amunindi
Lay of the night : R8. N8. Authorized
    Quaddie
    1,2,4,8,9
    2,3,9,11
    3,8,9
    1,4,11

I'll just be playing the straight out trifecta's with the peg runs.

    Lunar Tide-Myouri-

    Dreadlock - bettor dreams-

    David Hercules-Tuxedo -copagrin/billies/hokanui Ben

Well that was easy in hindsight wasn't it?. Had to work a bit for the lead but once there, it was all over.Tuxedo will need a Bex and a lie down, Northview ran strong from the 1x2  asyou predicted Linc :)  and Copagrin filled the hole. Billie went terrible - I don't like horses that stick their head up in the air and run like they've got their little brother's shoes on. He is not a horse that travels kindly, perhaps inexperience did him. No-one was prepared to take on David  but they didn't make much ground trying to come on late. Good resuly for DH - deserves a Group 1, they have him on top of his game. Thought Bettors went reasonable.
  • GilgameshGilgamesh    5,009 posts
I've only listened to it but I thought one of Hokonui Ben or Bettors Fire could have made a mobe to the breeze, to me sitting and letting Herc do what he wants was jist giving in.

Well done to all involved, horse definately deserved it.

Billies A Star looked like his tyre had come off the rim of the sulky JJ but still a poor run. My Hard Copy should be a certainty into the Pacing Cup now with maybe Our Jimmy Johnstone  who could come in after winning pretty easily last night & not sure on the status of Heez On Fire who was a late scratching in the Fremantle Cup.
