Sat Ascot 31/3/18

West Australian Racing
I'm a bit exhausted with an amazing Ascot day yesterday and ....home renovating!

Just 2 races of interest at present; R2/ I reckon Necklet is the best chance in a long time For P. Harvey to be back in the winners list on Sat. The horse is v lightly raced. For some reason I thought initially she was by Helmet but am now cheered by seeing Snitzel as the sire. The trial was gerat and you cannot knock the form last time in. At first I was worried that D. Staek was on her and that a wide run was a risk!
R7/ Here I have to go with Lockroy; one of our most consistent sprinters. His trial was just great beating Gigante (the latter has come up at 60 to 1 on NSW tab today!). He had a similarly good trial before last prep but was not real flash at first run back. I am guessing though they know the horse better now. The price is good courtesy of the greatly successful in form Gee Boss. But I didn't like the place odds this am on NSW TAB

Good form lines but form not good, big difference
To have good form you’d need to be winning....
TS I’m sober today, all week actually while at work :((

Gigante is obscene odds. Was always around the mark last prep in 72, 78 and even listed sprint grade. He loves it first up and only carries 56.5kg with Emma’s claim.

Forget his run last prep, where he was beaten 7.5L. Had to carry 60kg from barrier 12 and got trapped wide the whole trip.

1x2 EW for me and I’ll take a RB trifecta with Gee Boss.

Bit of a sudden hunch for Corporate Larrikin as I do query whether Red Ora is a 100 in some ways.
I am hoping the Corp beats Wrinkly out!

Pikey just $1.72 for the JC, after going down as $1.01 shot yesterday, only one point to half time today but does have have four big chances to come.

Chris Parnham looked the only danger - he's sitting on three.

I think @Gray has already pointed out that the other jocks in the race made his performance look a bit better then what it was.  None of them bothered to chase to catch the leader, let alone M&M.

note, I part own M&M, so was happy to watch them all sit there.....

Barzinho Rhino Buster quinella in the Albany Cup must be a shoe-in after MM winning today then

no chance anything not in that field today would have matched it with Friar Fox, she blew them away! the win was reminiscent of the Derby last year, once she made her run at the top of the straight the turn of foot was electric

    Shhhhhhhh!!

Would have liked to try the Albany cup, but I guess the draw, and that we only got a 1 kilo turn around on Barzinho for a 2 length defeat (HTF do you 3 points for second running within your grade, in a race worth less than a Saturday race?) added up to a Saturday run.

Nah, just realised that we screwed ourselves in that race.

The extra two points were given because Mitch couldn't ride 55, so carried 56.  So, not only did we have the penalty of carrying the extra kilo in the race, but we also immediately volunteered for two extra points as soon as we placed in the top three. (We actually carried the same weight as Barzinho in that race.)

Now what is really painful to think about too much, is that the day before the Mt Barker Cup, there was a $70000 66+ 2100m race run at Ascot.  Top three place getters from that race finished 4th/7th/3rd today.....  So, would we have been better to run @ Ascot and finish midfield (Bunbury Cup winner was in there, so its wasn't an easy field by half) 2 weeks ago, or take the 2 point penalty for the $7000 prize for second @ Barker......

Yep, NO IDEA myself.  But he won today with the solid tempo :D

[For mine, Not Again Ken is my tip for tomorrows race]

I am a huge jumps racing fan.
It would have been more financially viable for me to fly first-class  to Adelaide, get a private chopper to Oakbank and shout the bar there, than it was to spend the day at Ascot today.
