Winterbottom Stakes Day

West Australian Racing
What’s everyone’s thoughts for tomorrow?

Just had my first glance at the card and apart from the big one it looks like a boring day’s racing.

I’ll be have a few bob each way on Dainty Tess but that’ll be it for me. :-??

Next you'll be asking why they don't have all the races on the one day and call it Super Saturday?

Are there enough 'good' horses to spread over the three weekends of racing in WA?

No im not saying that maybe even just 1 more good race.look at this Race 1 6 starters Race 2 7 starters.im not saying go back to Super Sat thing, when they had that Spring carnival was over.Winterbottom is very good feild, but maybe just 1 more good one to back it up,i know Country final is on.

That country final should be a 300K minimum race

Yes you are right mate, to hear that some didn't want to make the trip to ascot says it isn't worth it? Also if you scratch you have to supply a vet certificate and the emergencies only get a run if a horse from their heat gets scratched.

I bet if it were 300K there would be a lot more interest.

Oh stop it, 90% of this field will never get to race for this kind of prizemoney ever again. It's a great concept. Add $200k prizemoney to any race and you get more interest.

I reckon 90% of the field has raced for 60K in a normal Saturday race

What s the significance of the name;;;REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP; THE ROAD TO ASCOT. when two horses are trained at ascot, hope they don't get lost. probably wrong I thought races like these were for regional and country  trainers, given a chance to race for top prizemoney with lesser lights.(horses) on a big day.

Totally agree STG there needs to be some changes to make this a true regional race to give not only the lesser horses but connections who don't often get a chance on the big days .Maybe have a restriction on how close (100km's) horses are trained  to Ascot? Or even top 10 Metropolitan trainers from the previous season become ineligible?

Doesn't also reward city trainers / horses who make the effort to travel and support the country tracks ?

thought it was a great concept...
you can travel to northam for your heat. you still need to qualify as per the rating of the race.
then you cross over with form from Albany and Esperance, Narrogin etc.
Great chance for horses to race for $100k without being Listed quality.

Yeah thats right about the ones who travel 100s of miles to support these country track, need to be co.pensated too,a lot do it yo help country clubs out.but not to say they don't like going there, they do.

not to mention Gero and Kal. Good to see Childsy come to town with a runner.
Be interesting if Nazareth gets a run... hasnt had a start in nearly 2 months after winning at Kal.

They have copied  a  n.s.w. idea  who  have country championships for country trainers and the provincial championships for provincial trainers  but just didn't quite get it right with the  rules

N.S.W. have the Everest plus ;;  the Kosciuszko  for country trainers;;;now waiting for w.a to have THE Greenmount..

Didn't realise they were stablemates but quite like the Paige Kenney runners in the country race they looked good at Bunbury when running the quinella - Vermont Lady and Flower Of Scotland.

Was caught a bid wide Flower Of Scotland and a shocking draw again today.

My point is still the same as my first post in this thread. This race should be more than $100K

Noticed in the provincial race there running 15 with 5 emergencies..they always were able to run 16 at the 1200. Bon Voyage might miss a start and would have been a big chance.

    Valour Road 31 into 7.50 @-)

I’ve rated it no chance but you’d think they are going to try and lead all the way.

Has a horse ever won a Karrakatta then Winterbottom in the same year?
  • JellJell    1,202 posts
Had a quick browse and couldn’t find one. The closest I could see was La Trice winning a Karrakatta in 1967 and then winning back to back Winterbottom’s in 1970 & 1971.
