Why cant there be a national interest to boost prize money in all of the city cup races:

    Perth Cup
    Adelaide Cup
    Sydney Cup
    Brisbane Cup

I didn't include the Melbourne Cup as it is already worth a lot of money and maybe the Sydney Cup should of been left out as that race is worth $2 mil. But the others - why not make them each a million dollars? Surely it can't hurt.

I agree with that. Maybe we'll get some good stayers then. I think the Sydney Cup is worth more than a million?

All these new high money races are great, but its going to start de valuing the already time honoured races. These new high value race targets might do more damage than good in terms of programming and actual historical significance

It doesn't matter if those that are winning these time honoured races aren't much chop because the best have already gone to stud(a point highlighted in the attached article from Racenet).....perhaps The Autumn Sun will race on now?

Messara has said this afternoon that The Autumn Sun would go the the Cox Plate rather than the Golden Eagle as winning a major open age would be better for his stud career

@tony And if he wins the Donaster Mile next Autumn(pun unintended)? A Cox Plate won't enhance his value any more than the Caulfield Guineas already has. Messara knows this. Also Waller will never race TAS against Winx in the QE, hence why he baulked at running his colt in this year's CP with 49.5kg.

@therealkramer Nothing would surprise me, just saying what Messara said, whether he acrually means it is another matter entirely.

If he's as good as he's shown to date, I hope he wins both the Doncaster & Cox Plate. Racing needs its best running on the track and not retiring to stud prematurely.
