Many a character has ventured onto racetracks. My vintage certainly know Penguin and his characteristics.

At the Trots moons ago I recall an old Yorkshire woman who used to tell everybody post race "I would have backed that woon" She was a dear old thing. I used to slip her the odd few bucks for a flutter just for the entertainment value.

"Rocket Rod" many years ago (70s and 80s maybe) Both at GP and Ascot/Belmont could not stop fidgeting, rubbing his eyebrows, pulling racebook from his pocket and putting it straight back in amongst other weird things

Sounds like a rocket rod  i knew he was always lalbelled urgent he was ex trotting driver he drove a horse that never started racing till it was over 7 years-old won at least its first six races mid seventies Paleface Aachen. for his grand father.sure he worked as bookies clerk later. if we are on the same rocket.

Don't think its the same person but do not know ? Think the "rocket" I talk of had some form of behaviour due to a gambling addiction ? (perhaps)

Yep STG, now works for Bond Inc, stable foreman. Knew Paleface Aachen well, striking looker and a brother to some ripper horses going way back to Broken Link for Les (not Laurie) Robinson, full or half brother to Rare Chief, Artisan, Kinda Quick and plenty of others. The dam, Aspadale, was a gem by Josedale Grattan.
Paleface never started until he was January 15, 1997 ......you are right, he was 7 and he won a 28 front at Bunbury for Rod Pescud/Pop Johnson. He won his next 4 including the heat and final of the Bunbury Gift held in conjunction with the Bunbury Cup on March 16th 1977 but all of those wins were with Scott Prowse on board. The sequence was broken with a 2nd to Culver Dene before Rocket Rod resumed on him to win on Anzac Day 1977 and then he ran 2nd at Northam on Cup Night (April 30th 1977) to Classic Command (Lindsay Froyland). Cup was won by another Aachen horse, Friskim, for FRK, who I backed, probably against the rules as I was the timekeeper at Northam, but hell, a tip was a tip and it was a strong tip indeed that night. Don't think it ever won another race. Anyway, back to Paleface, he won his Qualifying Stakes for RP but broke down. 8 starts, 6 wins and 2 seconds. He reappeared for 2 starts in June 1978 but ran last each time at a GP midweek and Pinjarra. He never raced again until 18 months later,  December 4 1979, when he won first up at GP for Max Johnson and had two more unplaced and that was that.

The Penguin hasn't changed a bit over decades of some very interesting times.
Recently, he stole a box of racebooks from the office and started selling them out the front of the racecourse. Comes up with something new every year.

    Correct, hasn't changed in decades.
He is still around the traps.
He got a big payout from being in a car accident.

posted in another thread in error

Richie Bell still gives The Penguin a mention as they go out of the GP home straight " out of the home straight past the former home of the Penguin"

Not really into the salacious gossip myself, some are i guess.

Never even heard of that Adrian fella and idrgaf about the Penguin or his preferences, plus he isn't here to defend your claim.
To be clear i'm not defending him just dont think it's newsworthy i.e what do you hope to achieve with these type of statements?

Of more interest new guy would be have you got any tips for Belmont tomorrow? Always thought this was a key factor of what a racing site was all about....

Or do you know if Pikey is heading East for the Spring carnival?

Then can i suggest you head to a more happier thread Thunderstuck if the truths all too much for you.

Tips are for the Belmont of Blackbook thread!

Thought some racing fans might be up for some true hidden facts of people in the racing game...looks like i was wrong.

    Best of luck,
    Happy Punting!

Don’t think that would be appropriate Bookielover given the above accusations.
Hopefully this is the last mention of it.
