The Rules of Trotting are enforced by an energetic panel of specially selected and trained stipendiary stewards, who are bound by a strict code of ethics.  Probably the most important parts of the rules are those dealing with the actual racing. They safe guard the interest of the patrons, provide for a fair deal for all contestants and above all ensure the main actors-the horses- are treated humanely and with consideration.  The rules dealing with interference are applied very strictly. Although almost all offences are unintentional involving some degree of carelessness, nevertheless very severe penalties are imposed on any driver who prejudices the chance of another runner. Maybe as a industry we need to take a step back to go forward.

    I go for my beautiful 10 mile walk every morning and you think about various things at the time 

    I watched Frid night GP replays  Sat lunchtime , one after the other boring as batshiit every race , all leader dominated  on the substandard 800 metre  track - in fact i said to myself . after they go about 300 metres the back 5-6 in the field they might as well retire their horses from the race - because they have got no hope 

    But like alot of sporting clubs the ones who have weaseled  their way onto commitees they are adamant unfortunately in keeping a half mile track- you only have to look at Soho The Real Deal $1.38 it was woeful in winning , would not have run in the 1st 5 at AP on a proper track 

    My posting to date - i havent been a fan of Standing Starts - however the only decent race/contest at GP on Frid was the stand 

    What i would do ( But Radley wont do this because he lacks  a bit of get up and go ) the AFL each year ( round 14 this year ) they have their big Retro Round , you know a throw back to the 70s and 80s - wear the jumpers that were worn then - its gets alot of publicity 

    Ok GP coinciding with the AFL Retro round , we will have a big Retro meeting at GP - you know a throw back to the heyday of Trotting - and this is what id do

    Have 10 - 20k ( penalty free ) standing start races at GP - have them like last Frid - horses on about 5 different marks - much better chance of stepping - make sure all the acceptors have had  a couple of stand trials - and seeing its a throwback meeting have the handicaps in yards - eg 36 - 72 yards etc 

    One of the races would be an invitational race for senior drives - T Warwick - FRK  Lou A - Kevin K -Mike R and plenty of others - and hopefully they have got old silks of that era because its a throwback meeting

    The other 9 races id have an Aust driving championship - 2 from each state Deni And either Jnr or Shannon , and with each state - get the 2 representatives in their race colours pictured alongside the 2 AFL club captains of that state in their retro footy jumpers - you want to ride on the coat tails of the publicity of the AFL Retro round 

    Promoted properly i think you would get tremendous interest in that GP meeting - and have it as an annual Retro - throwback  meeting each year coinciding with the AFL Retro Round

    I will give you one compliment Timmy , at least you are still on the forum  !!!

    Most of them , have left in mass for one reason or another- which is unfortunate , basically now no discussion on Trotting

    10/10 for thinking outside the box ill give you that, I think your only issue really is the number and quality of the standing start horses we have going around. We dont have a massive pool of metro class horses let alone horses that are qualified, and with how hit and miss the starters can be with standing starts , me personally wouldnt be in a rush to qualify a horse and waste a whole morning for a once off meeting, where my chance of earning is at the mercy of those said starters.

    Safety is a big concern
