Looking like being a race to be remembered.

Apache Cat and Takeover Target - two horses considered the best sprinters in Australia to line up plus the emerging Danny Beau and Marasco.

Lets hope the race lives up to the hype.

1 TAKEOVER TARGET 1 58.5 JAY FORD JOE JANIAK
2 APACHE CAT B 5 58.5 GREGORY EURELL
3 MARASCO 7 58.5 114 FRED KERSLEY
4 ROYAL LOTT 6 58.5 99 PETER HALL KEITH JEFFREYS
5 DANNY BEAU 9 58.5 102 JASON WHITING BRUCE WATKINS
6 INNOVATION 8 58.5 90 NEVILLE PARNHAM
7 SURPRISE IMPACT 3 58.5 90 BRAD RAWILLER RON COWL (JNR)
8 HADABECLORKA B 2 58.5 90 BRENT LARSSON

I will vote for Takeover Target, but it is hard to split these two great horses on what I have seen so far. At these weights nothing else seems like it has a chance.

This Race should have been held on Saturday. These two magnificent Champions deserve better than what they will get this week. I know a lot of Racing people will come out and watch them, but no more than 10,000 will be on course and more than likely it will be far less than this.

So should Crown Oaks, Vic Derby and Cox plate be held on Melb Cup day so it could get more of a crowd.

    hmm

They wouldnt have got anymore people last week but they will get more people this week - sits nicely in the program to my way of thinking

Fine conditions for Saturday should see a good turnout and they have advertised fairly well. If they get less than 20,000 - they are doing something wrong, this should be one of the biggest days with these two superstar sprinters clashing with a few of our own stars!

It's all about how they advertise to the general public - racing fans know what is happening, but we don't generate the gate and drinks turnover that make the big days successful!

Cmon Ascot can hardly hold more than 15000 comfortably anyway so we cant expect miracles 10000 would be a good crowd and comfortable.

10,000 will be the maximum, but somewhere around 8,000 would be my guess. The program is aimed at the racing purist, not the general public.

If they all accept for the race I think most Australian racegoers will stop and watch this.

This is a huge race... Everyone who enjoys a punt will watch this race!

I doubt however if Marasco will start!

to be honest im goin and im hoping there aint 10.000 people there , im not a real fan of the crowds but cant miss out on watching this race , was talking to someone on track a few backs who thinks this race is a joke two broken down has beens he said , i just looked at him and smiled thinking ur a knob but hey each to there own :D TT one of the true racing dream storys

Well I would have said I'm going the local in Danny Beau. Any horse that can run 1.08 flat can match it with the best anytime.
My philosophy of sticking with the locals has worked for me so far this carnival, etc ,etc.
However - barrier draw has done no favours. So will take TT.

Well I've been waiting for him to get found out (DB that is), been waiting a while  . Might just have to have a tenor on to stop him. Will be on the Target i think.

All these comparisons are all well and good, but I'd be stunned if there was more than 10-12 there on sat. It's greedy I know but I hope there isn't, last sat just gave me the sh*ts.

if i can back a winner tomorrow i'm putting the shallot on target. there's no way you'll get 2.50 on saturday. i suspect the big boys will step in and he will start near even money. i honestly think it's a put in take out job.
  • darkshinesdarkshines    2,837 posts
Jeez blake you are mega confident. I just can't be getting too warm about a old fella who's first up from a decent interval. The Target has been beaten before, I was on Bentley Biscuit when he ran him down up on the fence if I remember correctly. I think he's shown us he's not totally invincible? Having said that he was awesome in Singapore, probably in conditions a lit similar to ours.
  • darkshinesdarkshines    2,837 posts
All in all I think he's about the right price.
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
I'll be keeping safe at that price or lower.

I agree darkshines! Can we just get all the blokes to peeve off and leave all the hotties for us! That'll work much better....for me!

Apache Cats last run ,was at best horrible. Trainer has stated it's either Perth or the paddock & Jockey Corey Brown said Apache Cat was off the bridle and failed to respond to his riding. A post-race swab was taken from Apache Cat ,but nothing odd was found. Im a Cat man ,but man that 1st up run wouldn't win a maiden race. Something was amiss there for sure. Adds too the intrigue i suppose .

Apache Cat has worn blinkers for every start since the end of 2006

If the stable think he is unbeatable on Saturday what did they think before his last run?

Takeover Target is a moral.I dont care how fat Apache was 1st up he went terrible and would have to improve many lengths to get neat the champ. His record speaks for itsself and that gallop the other day showed he was looking awsome, primed for a 1st up win and going as good as ever.
  • Nan^Jiang^LaneNan^Jiang^Lane    501 posts
Apache would have to improve 8-10 lengths off his 1st up run.TT is a champion sprinter.Everyone has there own opinions but TT has won me stacks over the years and i not dropping off.

That track gallop, he looked as good as he ever has.Last few preps Joe has always left him needing the run, but not this time.Trialed in melb, a good hit out the other day has him primed.I just hope everyone in WA gets out and watches him run.Sends chills down the spine when he is at his best.

i'm with you njl. apache first up they thought it was winning mail i got is one of greg's owners had 30k on it after speaking with him. and mail i'm getting from where they are staying is TT is doing everything better than apache and will brain him.
