Race 1.

5. HUSSY HOFFA (Real drop in class and has a solid chance of winning here - Not alot of depth to this race and this horse looks hardest to beat in this claimer)
1. SURFIN SUPERSTAR (Gets every chance from the barrier - has been trialing well but not bringing the same perfomances to the track - Hard to tip with confidence)
2. JIMMY KELLY (Should be able to drop in behind the leader and get a soft run - Value for the novelty players)
7. CAPTAIN BROMAC (Has been racing fairly has a wide gate to overcome - Andy McCarthy to have his first drive at Gloucester Park on it - Has the ability to earn will be interesting to see how Andy adapts to WA's style of racing)

Race 2.

1. FULL MOON TONIGHT (Has the draw to land the lead and run a big race - Form from inside draws has been solid and at each way odds has a good chance to earn here)
9. OHOKA GEORGIA (Showed no gate speed and appeared sluggish early last week but zipped home in 57.4 has to overcome wide draw - Looks the favourite but is a risk)
7. ALBY ALBERT (Has to overcome the wide draw and rarely finds itself in a winning position - is always running home strong but at the short odds it offers every week backing it seems unwise - In saying that this isnt a strong field and with the right run you cant discard his chances)
6. TOO BAD (Has been running on strongly but yet to crack it for a win in the state has an awkward draw but is racing well enough to win this race - Keep Safe)

Race 3.

4. EYES ON ARMBRO (Is racing well - His run against Falcons Medley was very nice before being checked and running 6th has the gate speed to lead and with the scratchings in the race he can lead and I think he will go very close - Go Well)
7. CELTIC CRUSADER (Massive drop down in class and looks to be a big chance - His runs have been very nice and will most likely open favourite)
6. EEDEMUP (Hasnt been far away in its past runs and the draw is better now with the scratchings - Needs to slot in but will be running on strong)
10. CHRISTIAN VANCE (It's chances of earning have been shot with the scratching of Ace Stride but hit the line strong last start and with the right run can earn a cheque in this)

Race 4.

3. MILLWOOD MEG (Picks herself and most likely will win, BUT she will be short and her last win her gate speed wasnt great and had to be driven along to get to the front - Fast beginners to her inside - Substantial rise in class - Me personally thinking she is a risk at the short odds but she has every right to be favourite)
12. MR CLANCY (Tough run last start in quick time - Has awkward draw but if Millwood Meg has enough speed he may be able to follow through from the back line - 2506m wont worry him and is the main danger to the fav)
9. HIRLI BIRLI LOMBO (This horses previous runs have been full of merit and is knocking on the door - Distance will help this horse and drive to gather their thoughts and plan their attack on the leaders but still hard from the wide draw)
1. LITTLE ANGEL (Novelty chance from the draw off a soft trip will run home well)

Race 5.

3. JAY CEE ESS (Quick beginner and from the draw may be able to lead and be hard to beat - But up against a tough field - Start all important here)
4. COUNTRY CHANGE (Looks the main danger - Good win in a stand a few starts ago - G.Hall Jnr back aboard and will go close)
9. MISTER ODDS ON (10m wont worry him this is a nice race for him and with a safe beginning he has a good chance - Is racing better than his numerical form suggests)
10. MYSTA MAGICAL MACH (I think this horse will be a vast improver with class drop in saying that he has to overcome the 30m handicap)

Race 6.

6. GRINJARO (Is racing super without little joy - Much weaker field for the nugget prelude rather than last week and it will just keep pressing forward and looks the one to beat - Go Well)
8. WRONGLY ACCUSED (Not a bad run last start hard to make ground when they were running home in 56 off the front - Not as tough this week and is one to keep an eye on)
2. AUSSIE TERROR (Solid win after a good drive last start and has been racing in good form - from the good barrier can figure in the finish here one for the novelties)
9. WHY LIVE DANGEROUSLY (Got the perfect run last start and ran on well off the soft trip much tougher from out in 9 and will have to put in a big run from out there - Still a good chance but its winning chances dented with the draw)

Race 7.

4. MOTU TREASURE (Bit hot and cold this horse but a mile looks his go - Draw is helpful will be pressing forward at the start - Very Fast horse and looks the one to beat)
1. MON GEE (Has been racing well since returning and the mile is its go - Has gate speed weather they want to lead or not will be the tactic to watch at the start - This horse holds the key but nevertheless will run a big race)
2. SIR ARTSPLACE (Should just duck in behind them and be running on strongly at the business end - One for the novelties)
3. FALCONS MEDLEY (Been racing well and the mile has been the right distance for this horse running some very quick times - Will have to do it tough tonight and this is its acid test)

Race 8.

7. IM THEMIGHTYQUINN (Has been re-united with his favourite driver and expect a big run from this star - Should be restraining at the start and using his devasting sprint at the finish to get the Miracle Mile selectors pricking there ears)
9. IMA ROCKET STAR (2506m will suit him perfect and will be given time to settle from the wide draw - He is all class and what ever he does tonight he will improve on)
5. JUMBO OPERATOR (This horse is a star in himself and this is the biggest test in his short careers - He's in form in fact hes never been out of form - From the draw they will be trying to get into a handy spot and he will be running on strong - If he's at a decent price dont leave him out of calculations he hasnt got the record he does for being no slouch - Go Well)
1. IMA SPICEY LOMBO (Devastating win last start in alot weaker company steps up to 2506m and has the perfect draw - Should lead and holds the key to the race but should lead and run a big race - Cannot be left out either as its going to improve immensily on its first run back, Which is exciting to think of)

Race 9.

2. FAST TURNOVER (Looks a special - Everything points to this horse, took all the pressure last start before getting tired the last 100 to run 3rd that was over 2503m this time its the short-course stand and should lead and win)
3. GRIT (Can get away nice and end up in a handy spot and should finish close in a race like this - Has been knocking on the door, but will have to wait another week I think)
1. ZINE ZIDANE (Is racing well off a soft trip and from the draw should get that soft trip and run on strong to the line - Good novelty chance)
9. SMOOTH SHIFT (First up from a break and is a nice horse found it hard to win last campaign needing the right runs - Think this horse will need all the breaks to run down the smart Fast Turnover, but will improve greatly off this first run back)

Race 10.

5. HEEZA TOP DOG (Is racing very well and can do a bit of work in its races - A.C.Lewis on board to send it forward and go very close in this even field)
10. LEES APPROVAL (Has a nice draw 1 off the back line so can pick and choose who he would like to follow - Looks the main danger and is going to be close to favouritism with the 5)
4. BRONZE ICON (Can fire out the gate quickly and get itself in a handy position to earn for connections - Good each way chance)
1. AMONGST ABBEY (Purely for the novelties at a little bit of odds)

Hardly think that the HRNSW directors will have their ears pricked at all.

ITMQ needs to be racing at Newcastle in the Newcastle Mile on Saturday night to have been any chance of a MM berth, imho.
  • G-MacG-Mac    1,678 posts
Haven't had a chance to have a look all week really. Too busy doing the stuff that makes me money.

Captain Bromac looks value in the first.

I agree with King. If Quinn stays racing in Perth his MM ship has sailed. He needed to be in Newcastle tomorrow or at Menangle next week for the Cordina. Racing that bunch over 2500m won't get him picked. Unless he comes home in 55 tonight...

Lovely drive McCarthy. I wonder of the stewards will have a word with him about his driving position; he seemed to hang out the back of the cart North American style.
  • KingKing    264 posts
Andrew is an absolute gun and that drive was a pleasure to watch.

The North American style is due to him driving almost 500 winners in the USA, G Mac. In fact, he drove his last winner at The Meadowlands just last friday, the 5th (via http://www.standardbredcanada.ca/news/11-5-10/keystone-edges-rockstar-no-no-yankee-series.html).

He has won near on 1000 winners in Aus and USA combined, and by 24, that is a remarkable achievement.
  • G-MacG-Mac    1,678 posts
Millwood Meg the obvious choice but too short for me (although you should see what I've been backing at HP). Interesting that Chris Lewis chose Hirli Birli Lombo over Emjayem Grand. I'm taking HBL at the good odds.
  • G-MacG-Mac    1,678 posts
Yeah, I've been been keeping an eye on his career over there King. He's very cool under pressure. My only worry was that he may have lost count of the laps after spending so much time at the Meadowlands! He must have felt like he was driving the horse around his backyard.

Fair too.. im a big fan of his work.

    Well played Rompz.
Matty was right about the rise in class. Query regarding the Nugget for mine.

Country Change is about the right price for me
  • Indomitable Saab is a real trier, was entitled to get weary, but they got tired chasing him, to think I laid him one day on a monday meeting, but after tonight we are well and truly in his debt, very high action and certainly over races but a just doesnt stop trying
  • at odds on I have laid ITMQ, and finding out Has The Answers needed last weeks run has made me very confident
  • in my eyes he hasnt come back.

    Little summary of the meeting

Race 1. Surfin Superstar probably went a touch fast down the back and was found wanting down the straight - Andy McCarthy settled in well to the ranks with a good drive and good win. Hussy Hoffa was flat out once he made his forward move never looked to travel at all.

Race 2. Ohoka Georgia just kept on kicking like a Hall Snr horse does and held off Gathering Gears who had the perfect run in the race - As did Aly Albert who placed again! - One for the sinbin for life is Appladay was disgraceful!.

Race 3. Lombo Air Express finally showed some form with a good last 600m - Celtic Crusader battled on fairly was well specked on track - Eyes On Armbro led and was given every chance but just not good enough on the day.

Race 4. Millwood Meg was very disappointing - worked to get to lead but only ran home in 59.6 and just struggled - Will have to improve to be any factor in the nugget - Little Angel got the perfect run and just run home well enough to sprint over the top good drive J.K.P - Blissful Snag ran home really well and Hirli Birli Lombo was a tough run.

Race 5. Jay Cee Ess was too good for them after finding the front and dictating slipping home in 56 and change - Country Change finished the race off real well was quite impressive - Undertheinfluence took advantage of the good beginning to finish in the money.

Race 6. Indomitable Saab was well thought of on track and went really well solid times the whole way and held them off - Grinjaro just didnt get carted close enough to the leader before having to make his run.

Race 7. Motu Treasure crossed even with the short amount of time before the bend and was just too good for them - Tsunami Lombo and Little Big Sister ran on well late.

Race 8. Amazing peformance by Ima Spicey Lombo too good for them in 1.56.3 smashing the Australasian mares distance record by 0.9 of a second - Im Themightyquinn was super in defeat making his run with the last 3 quarters in 29.2,27.7,28.6 very good run in defeat - Has The Answers was horrible - Jumbo was checked - Ima Rocket Star never figured after being put 4 deep.

Race 9. Smooth Shift was very impressive in beating Fast Turnover who had every chance to win and was a touch disappointing.

Race 10. Bronze Icon showed good gate speed led, dictated and was good enough to win - Lees Approval lobbed handy and wasn't good enough on the night - Heeza Top Dog didnt get out til late and ran on well just got to far back

HTA stood down 6 days and a trial after a vet's exam.
Quinn had every chance and should have won if he came back as good as we thought he would. What concerns me is the way he needed a few cuts when Junior tried to bring him around the the leader's wheel. In the past he has had push button accelaration, he just seems dour at the moment.

Good efforts from The Hunter and Albert Jaccka.

But all credit to the mare. She's come back an absolute treat which pleases me no end. I was a massive fan of her as a juvenile over here and was made to look rather stupid when she put in a dead set stinker in the Oaks at GP last year. I'm glad WA fans are getting to see what we got over here.
  • I thought I heard on Racing Radio G Hall snr say he thought he had made a blew with ITMQ's prep, either by giving him too long off, or not having him hard enough, something like that?

He just isnt showing that zip he had, G-Mac your spot on, also I thought Grinjaro would finish off a bit better,
  • G-MacG-Mac    1,678 posts
Grinjaro just peaked on his run I feel, most likely because G'day Mate made him do just that tiny bit extra on the turn. Great drive by Reid though, he rated it perfectly and got every last bit out of his drive.

How good is the high knee action on Indomitable Saab? When he retires he has an equestrian career ahead of him. He would suit prancing around in the dressage competition.

Geeeez i must have been watching a different race on Friday night G-Mac. For someone that thinks they know harness racing just go back and look at the run and look at the times. ITMQ is not your and the particular 3 wide breeze horse and when you run 156 and change OFF THE FRONT ON THE PEGS how can you expect the horse to go any faster than he did!!!
It was a very good run.

Dont bother in trying to justify you comment that he hasnt come back as good as he was as the master's proof will come in the big races when he salutes.

Slip........Thats not Gary Hall Snr/Jnr or anyone within the Gary Hall camp.....they have better things to do then defend their horses on here.

P.S. Quinny was huge his times were sensational.
  • G-MacG-Mac    1,678 posts
We were all (or me at least) expecting ITMQ to come back and be a challenger to BAF, Smoken Up, Monkey King etc. Basically be top 3 in Australasia and a serious MM contender. On the runs he has put in he hasn't. Yes, Lombo was flying in front and rated to perfection which would make it nearly impossible for a very good horse to win. It was a very good run from a very good horse but it wasn't as good as you would expect from a top 3 horse. I'm hoping he does fire and starts blowing them away as I was really looking forward to this campaign from him and I must admit to being disappointed I won't see him in the flesh at the MM.

But it's all opinion and if everyone agreed all the time life would be boring.

Just jesting Darkie but it good to view a debate between the Pacing contributors. There doesn't appear to be enough fans of the industry commenting on this forum. The same few (including yourself) are doing all the work and good on them whether they agree with each other or not... after all that is what a forum is all about.... opinions.

I think g mac hit the nail on the head , everyone had high expectation this time in & all though still racing well he hasnt blown us out of the water .

P-Broke where is the nonsence?? If you could point it out to me. Or if you like you can come and advise me up at the bar Friday night at GP as I would love to hear your thoughts. Yoy say IMTQ hasnt shown the zip? Has he had a cart up or a softer run for a chance to use that explosive speed??

Now PB go back through the replay's and look at his runs. The most questionable run was second up when he breezed after being wide. Not his cup of tea but beaten only 6m.

Can you feel it huh huh. See you at the bar pencil D**K

Have a look at his August Cup win (20/8). He lobs the 1x1 early but hangs off the back of an average lead time of 70.3 doing no work then at about the 1100m mark pulls out from the 1x1 (which was effectively 1x2 given how far back Rostriever Ornum was sitting) and within 100m he's at the leaders wheel and the game is on. He sits outside Has The Answers, who was flying at the time, and runs 27.2 and 28.1 in a near armchair drive for Hall Jnr.

Compare that to last Friday (12/11). Same conditions, same distance. On this occasion a fast lead time of 64.1 he sits 1x3 (again not doing much work to get that position) and at the 1100m goes to make his move. The zip isn't the same and he's trapped 3 wide on that bend and 3 wide past the winning post. By the 700m he's at the leaders wheel and they come home in 27.8 and 28.7, 1.3 seconds slower than the August Cup, but he couldn't overcome the leader. If he had his usual turn of foot prior to the bell lap Ima Spicey Lombo was a sitting shot because she had run the first 1700m of the race over 5 seconds slower than Has The Answers did in the August Cup.

The Quinn of August 20 would have won that race on Friday.
  • There you go Trackman

    Gmac has made PERFECT SENSE
plus I am sure G Hall snr said that he hadnt been happy with the horse, maybe he is wrong too

Trackman is there any need for insults? it might be small but by god its handsome
