Cadel and Basso don't have the ability to launch attacks up the mountains, they don't have the explosiveness of Contador and the Schlecks.

Andy attacks, Cadel covers then bro waits for Bro. Frank attacks Cadel covers, bro-lo el cunado. They will continue to take time off Cadel and whoever has the yellow jersey in the ITT always seems to ride 3 foot taller so don't expect to get time back that late in the game. He would have learnt that lesson in 08 with Sastre.

Cadel has to be in front or very very close to coming out of the mountains. The only way he can do this is if Cheatador and Basso help him attack the Schlecks but Cheatador doesn't look like he has been on the same 'program' this year, which is understandable given the attention he would have received. Injuries my a$$!

The brothers from Luxembourg are phenomenal, it is in their blood, I have no doubt they will get the job done this year after chaingate last year.

Basso was good last night, needs a couple more like that for the 50's e/w to look good but.

will know more after stage 14 i reckon.

i am quietly confident of a basso attack

He's looking strong, Contador showed a bit too.

Is Andy Schleck gonski, or lying doggo for a while??
  • TheFunksterTheFunkster    3,840 posts
Gonski! Frank must be a query too, but some of the time he lost was probably due to trying to help Andy.
Sammy Sanchez could be the smokey, not that far down the standings. NFI how good he time trials though.
Voekler still has to be caught, but Cadel would have to be fav to win now :)
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
As I said - he doesn't need to attack, he just needs to be strong and go with whichever one/s attack each day.
None of the others are capable of doing so EVERY day.
  • ericwanduericwandu    544 posts
yeah cadel is looking strong cant believe contador inflicted that damage on the schlecks on a cat 2 climb.

hope cadel can hold up on stage 18 & 19 with the hill top finishes and not give contador anymore than 30secs start by the ITT and i reckon hes home. think having voeckler in yellow and taking pressure off cadel has been awesome for him.

andy cant win he wouldnt be lying low and give away 1min to contador before the alps. he just couldnt go. leopard trek to be on the front the next few stages now and andy only choice but to work for frank now.
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
They all might have f'd up big time letting Voekler get so far away in that break that day................
Couldn't believe it when I was watching it - they just weren't interested in chasing at all
  • ericwanduericwandu    544 posts
cadel could catch voeckler in the ITT as the times sit now.

agree he may podium now, his TT isnt too bad either - he would be no slower than 10-25secs behind contador i reckon.

    Didn't mean just Cadel.
Andy & Frank won't be catching him in the TT

    my bad

althought last year andy beat voeckler by sometihng over 3mins i think in the ITT (distance less this year) so couldnt say for certain andy wouldnt catch him. Franks another story though but hes not as far back as andy atm.

anyone keen to have a crack at the podium

    cadel/contador/sanchez for mine.

WTF is it not on until 9:30 ???
Made me miss a lot of the good stuff last night...............by the time it came on I'd forgotten !!!
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
    WTF are they doing ?????????????????????????????????
  • JordanJordan    1,827 posts
Who knows but cadel got no friends out there this could cost him the race ballsy move by schleck!
  • TiversTivers    7,720 posts
Schleck didn't go with any friends either - and just rode away !!!
  • JordanJordan    1,827 posts
He had 2 team mates ahead to help him , great finish by cadel and voekler owes cadel a big thank you kept him in the yellow jersey
  • octaviusoctavius    2,290 posts
Gee, Cadel has a huge heart.

Going to struggle tomorrow as well now that Contadors tour is shot and won't help shut down the dual attacks.
  • JordanJordan    1,827 posts
Voeckler owes him and he's about the only one who can help him now all the others are gone but not sure voeckler has the legs anymore. If cadel can limit the damage to seconds only he is a chance come the time trial but if it gets over 2 mins he could be in trouble but you know one thing he won't go down without giving it his all he has a huge heart !

Blew past the first one in about 30 secs, and was already 4 mins ahead by the time he caught the 2nd one.

How / why did Cadel let him ride away from him on the decent ???
    No excuses there.

Voeckler gave up last night (on the overall).
Probably won't even bother trying tonight.

Only a short stage, so Cadel should be able to match any attacks (bar what last night took out of him)
  • TheFunksterTheFunkster    3,840 posts
    Tonights stage is "only" 110k's.
A Cat 1 and 2 HC's. Cadel should take the fight up to them and attack going up the Col du Galibier. Next 56k's is 90% downhill he could put a gap on them and hope to hang on for the last 15km HC climb.
May need to speak to Voekler or Basso about an alliance, but I reckon his team could almost help get him to the foot of the Alpe D'Huez.
