Seriously, you look at the pay packets of the top ten and you wonder why?

I know they have talent, but do we over pay sports people?

Of course they are over paid but it comes down to how many people want to watch. The AFL players are over paid but if the AFL is making $1billion from the rights how can you begrudge those making the product getting their share? Soccer makes way more so why shouldn't the players get more?

Saying that I feel sorry for say an Aussie hockey player. He may well be in the top 10 players in the country the equilevant of say Joel Selwood in terms of top players in the country. Selwood is on $800k a year the hockey player works part time to get by. I feel sorry but thems the breaks Aussie rules reins king we know.

What really does my head in though is the way we will bag an athlete competing at an international level yet swoone over a mediocre AFL player. Great example is James Magnussen, by far the best in the country but couldn't quite get it done at the Olympics and plenty out there wanted to give it to him. in reality he is on a par with Garry Ablett, no pier in the country. But he competes with 7billion people compared to 24million of an Aussie rules player. Cricket the same Phil Hughes is a freak his state record is fantastic, state cricket is a much harder level than AFL when you look at 120 state contracted cricketers compared with 650 contracted AFL footballers yet Phil Hughes is constantly bagged. Imagine if the USA or Russia played AFL maybe there'd be some guys that right now are regarded as fantastic but couldn't handle international level..........

Ok I'm way off topic but this gets me all the time every time I hear talk back radio say a guy like Scott Selwood is a star.......

no athlete, sportsman or CEO is worth the money payed to those soccer players.
how on earth do or can they spend those mega millions?
half cannot string a sentence together ffs.
but, they've got it and we haven't.
heard some of our tattooed afl players speak? geez, I think they failed kindy....

There are another 10 or so drivers after Vettel - but the difference between a guy paid 31.7m and a guy paid 1.1m is scary!

Good news for Ricciardo going forward - he has a future for sure!  Something tells me Ricciardo will be up for a payrise and Vettel will be taking a paycut next year!

    13. Jules Bianchi (Marussia): $360,000

    14. Jenson Button (McLaren): $385,000

    15. Romain Grosjean (Lotus): $537,000

    16. Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari): $1.17 million

    17. Marcus Ericsson (Caterham): $216,000 for no points

    18. Kamui Kobayashi (Caterham): $216,000 for no points

    19. Max Chilton (Marussia): $290,000 for no points

    20. Esteban Gutierrez (Sauber): $577,000 for no points

    21. Adrian Sutil (Sauber): $2.9m for no points

    22. Pastor Maldonado (Lotus): $4.3m for no points
