As average has Hughes has been since getting back into the team and domestic form I would now persist with him for a couple more series and see if he can improve while being in the international camp.

I still believe he is a special talent, but he obviously needs to improve his game and while we are looking to rebuild I think we should give him a fair chance to prove himself at this level.

We need a total rebuild, the time for bandaid selections are well and truly gone and is starting to hurt us going forward.
  • cant see how they would pick Hughes ahead of Katich

If there was a test next week and all players were fit and healthy I would go with

    Watson
    Katich
    Khawaja
Clarke (but on his last chance soon or Ponting)
    Hussey
Ponting (or an all-rounder like Steve Smith)
    Haddin
    Johnson
Hauritz (sadly still our best spinner)
    Siddle
    Hilfenhaus (also on last chance)

Ponting, Clarke, Hauritz and Hilfenhaus would all be in the firing line for sacking tho if they had another bad series

I just don't see the point in continuing with Ponting given his age and the drought has been going on 2 years now, maybe let him have one more World Cup...

    Katich
    Hughes
    Watson
    Khawaja
    Clarke
    Hussey
    Haddin
    plus 4 crap bowlers
  • Watson finally ran himself out after running 2 others out previously

he is the new steve waugh
  • sorry but cant cop Hughes - gets out the same way over and over

Let us not forget just how good the Poms have been this summer.

We have been poor, no doubt, but much of that is because England have poured on so much pressure.

The team and many of the players are suffering major confidence issues which is not good for a cricketer, hopefully a few of them can get some confidence back against the lesser teams and that will have a flow on effect.

    re: Hughes

He is just playing so late at everything, reminds me of Watson 18 months ago.

I still think time in the Aussie camp will improve Hughes and there ain't many better candidates piling the pressure on.

Jimmy Andersen has been brilliant this summer never seen a bowler swing it as much as him both ways anyone think of someone who has in the past?
Also cant believe Hughes did so well against Steyn and Morkel sure they would like another crack at him Morkel looks to be getting better all the time.

You my friend are fu#king joking, selectors should all be sacked just for bringing him back in the team. He should take up knitting or something because he cant bat cant bowl and cant field

A Hypothetical (and disregarding the impact of lost time due to rain)....

Do they reduce the playing time and number of overs to be bowled today for the extra half hour played yesterday?

An important factor if you are trying to get an arbitrage on the draw.

    No
  • Yes they do - but it wont matter

the half hour would be taken off todays play im pretty sure.

nence why the minimum overs were only 88 instead of previous days which were approx 96

Wasn't the extra half hour to catch up for weather delays from previous days?
  • im 100% sure

no it was because England were trying to finish the game
  • ericwanduericwandu    544 posts
nah they have been starting the game half hour early each day for that.

if the team feels they can bowl out the batting team then they can ask for a extra half hours play. they have that chance again today too should they need it i think.
  • no they dont get another half hour today

play finishes at 5pm or 88 overs
  • only hope we have now della, is pray for thunder and lightning!! :P
unless you want to get out and back england at $1.01
  • ericwanduericwandu    544 posts
yeah i wasnt too sure how today went being the last day if they could ask for the half hour. makes sense though.
